Thing is I am very wary of starting medication to feel better (I struggle with depression and possibly BPD), I've only resorted to basic lifestyle changes like exercise, therapy. What are your thoughts on holistic care to alleviate mental health struggles?

I’d do that any day over medication, I cured myself from C-PTSD by holistic therapies.
Somatic movement, chakras, breathe work, dance, rage release, cold water therapy, sweat lodges, all have helped me heal

I believe (and not a doctor but certainly had my struggles), that general wellness is what gets you better for the long term. Sleep, eating well, exercise, productiveness, addressing stress points or trauma, general self care and building feeling of worth and achievement.

But that’s not to say medication doesn’t have a place. That’s a short term fix which gives you energy and space to build the above.

I hope you are ok OP 💐

That's amazing to read and gives me hope! How did you come to this? And which resources did you use? did you just search online?

Thank you! I notice that every time I slip into my old habits is when life gets worse for me, as naturally I'm very much prone to being depressed and coped for years with substances. It's changed much when I eradicated bad habits. Now I've had a baby, I am again experiencing depression due to lack of sleep, exercise and generally....time for myself..I did take Sertraline and it didn't help me much so quickly gave up.
