Success from switch from Escitalopram to sertraline?

Have been on Escitalopram as 3 months now. Had went as high as 15mg for a few weeks but couldn’t tolerate the tiredness so came back down to 10mg.
It just ain’t working. Plain and simple.

Thinking of switching to sertraline….has anyone had successfully done this and improved with the switch?

desperately needing advice as I’m feeling so down and lost.

I've been on escitalopram since 2012. Started at 5mg and I am only now after 12 years increasing to the highest dose of 20mg. I know 100% that if I hadn't had these I wouldn't be here now.

The worst increase for me was from 5mg to 10. 10 to 15 was a breeze.... I am hoping the 15 to 20 will be as equally smooth.

I had tried every med prior to escitalopram... these for me are a lifesaver.

My ds, 18, was on escitalopram 20mg for 9 weeks (for severe ocd - intrusive thoughts) and is now moving to sertraline. Has tapered over this week, on advice of the psychiatrist, and started 100mg of sertraline today.

She said since his body is already used to an ssri, there shouldn't be many side effects. His sleep has been more disturbed and he is therefore more tired in the morning but other than that, it's been okay. Will keep you posted.

I’m doing this right now, I’ve been on citalopram for years was on 40mg the max dose but it isn’t good with other meds so GP is weaning me off it to switch to sertraline, I’m on 10mg this week and I’m am crashing big time, I am so so low. Doesn’t help I am peri menopausal and have chronic pain. I have constant headaches, feel constantly tired, want to do nothing but stay in bed.

@Astridastro peri makes everything worse. I'm switching from duloxetine to fluoxetine and my period is all over the place. Hang in there

IamNannyPlum · 05/02/2024 10:32

I did the reverse switch, as I found that my symptoms were so much worse with sertraline (50mg)or citalopram. Escitalopram (5mg)was the only one that allowed me to function normally. Sertraline made me feel very sick and sleepy. I think it’s just trial and error as to which one will work best for you.

@IamNannyPlum it's the waiting for the meds to settle or work thats the pits. I feel like I will never be happy again. I have been on meds since September and still in the shit x
