Positive feedback PLEASE- Hi everyone i am currently going through second time on sertraline i am 17 days in on 50mg and i am finding it so hard still the mornings now are the worst rush off overthinking constant anxiety, nausea, i have no interest in nothing, i still feel irritated shaky still abit my mind goes into overload, diarrhoea I called the doctors today and they really didn't say much all they said was shall we try 100mg and i said i don't know do you think it would help? She actually didn't give me an awnser she then said carry on with the 50mg and we will do a review in 2 weeks. I dont know what to do anymore can people please tell me it gets better because i cant remember how long it took me the first time to get better and i keep panicking and trying to fight the thoughts that go through my head. I am signed off work but try and get out still but its still there. I just to back to my old happy self & i just feel like its not getting better. I really hope it does because i dont know what to do anymore.😔

@twitchybum you have been so lovely thank you honestly its nice to know i am not the only one and this is quite normal what i am going through i am now worried if this leads to other thoughts because every few days it can change to something else the other day i actually begun to overthink whilst i was going to sleep maybe i dont love my partner anymore and i know they were thoughts and my anxiety taking over me. I actually couldn’t believe this i feel like i am panicking way to much and i really hope the medication helps me . Another thing is irritation its so bad when my anxiety is bad or if i am zooned out with my thoughts which i am like 90% of the day i itch my ears or the back of my head and i cant stop they have become so dry i forget to mention that to the doctors to be honest but like i said i hope my thoughts will stop with the 100mg of sertraline.

That is absolutely anxiety. It causes intrusive thoughts for sure. I'm sure once things settle down all these racing thoughts will disappear like they did for me. I also itched my head when I was zoned out! I had sores and scabs on my scalp where I had picked and picked while zoned out! I haven't done that since feeling better though. Have you taken your first 100mg yet? X

@Lifeofasd1 thank you do you know if my overthinking and worrying & nerves will go away ?

Yes, it does go away. You’re in a constant hyper vigilant state right now and the revolting anxiety feeling is adrenaline. That will calm down. You’ll get patches here and there, in the evening at first, where lifting a remote becomes unconscious again rather than something you force through your thoughts. Those patches of calm and peace will get longer any start to join together and you will feel normal and calm more than not after a while. Then eventually you will feel like that from wakening. It takes time and rest and medication. But you will get there. I’m 3 yrs later and not even a blip. But was so so ill for months. I know exactly how you’re feeling. It’s hell on earth. You’re not alone.

@Dordi it's so crazy how similar your whole experience is to mine! And if I can get better so can you ❤️ you won't feel worse, I promise you you've done the hard bit of starting the medicine and now you've just gotta get the right dose. I hope it helps and tomorrow is a calmer day for you x

MissRabbitIsABoss · 09/02/2024 21:25

I went onto sertraline after citalopram stopped being effective and I would say give another couple of weeks before going up a dosage/giving up on it. It needs to build up sufficiently in your system and once it started working, I found it really helpful and made me feel like my old self. Stick at it 💜

@Dordi I completely understand. It consumes your every thought and you can't really think about anything else. It feels like you're going mad doesn't it! My husbands birthday happened while I was in the middle of mine and we couldn't celebrate it, I felt awful but I just couldn't think about anything else while I was so overwhelmed and anxious. Just think though, you'll be 1 week into having a higher dose so by this time next week you might feel much better 🤞🏼 xx

@Dordi it definitely helps when you can find someone who has also been through it. I rang an anxiety helpline and got through to someone who had also experienced all the same things, it was her who helped me take the step to go on medication and I'm so grateful for it. You are taking all the right steps and you've done the hardest part. I'm glad you have an appointment on Thursday and please feel free to message me any time day or night! Let me know how you get on in the coming days x

Hi @Dordi, I’m about the same time along as you except I’ve gone up from 50- 100mg. I’m also getting some side effects & wondering when it will settle. I’ve been on 50mg for years though & it’s served me well- I just can’t remember how long it took for me to feel better. I think at least four weeks. At the moment I am getting insomnia & alternating between anxiety/ feeling low & detached. I think if we push through we’ll start to feel better. It’s hard though I know.

I know this is an old thread but I'm exactly where you were right now. Did you finally start to feel better? I feel so hopeless that the increase to 100mg isn't going to help it's been about 5 days

Whereismycat · 30/07/2024 23:20

Hi @queenroo, yes it did get loads better! It took a few weeks to be honest & I had really bad insomnia. I actually started taking magnesium as well as I wasn’t sure if it might also be peri related. It’s definitely worth sticking with it & try not to feel too deflated. Just remember that it probably took a while to work when you first went on it but you’ve now forgotten (I had). I did see my GP & he prescribed promethazine (stronger antihistamine) to help with the sleep if you’re finding that an issue. I did still wake up a lot but I felt more relaxed. Any other questions just ask.

Thank you so much for replying. That's so good to hear that you felt better I'm really hoping if I stick with them I'll feel the same, it's just so scary at the time I feel like nothing will get better. I've been given zopiclone for a few nights to help, which is a little. How was the magnesium? Are you still taking sertraline now? X

Whereismycat · 31/07/2024 09:06

Yes I’m still taking the Sertraline 100mg & I’m expecting to be on it a while for various reasons. It’s so horrible when you’re feeling low/ anxious & you have that feeling that it won’t ever improve. I think going up to 100 definitely made me feel worse for a while which was really hard. I still take the magnesium too & I think it’s helped with my sleep too, I was recommended it on here. It’s this one. I have it an hour before bed.
