cilitropram - can u drink alcohol if you are taking this

hi been taking this for 1 month on 20mg really low dose apparently...going on holiday the weekend and was wondering if it is safe to leave them off a couple of days for me to have a couple of glasses of wine

No! Don't stop taking them - it'll make you feel really weird and bit ill. Are they one of the ssris? I've been on various ones and though drinking is not recommended, I have had the odd couple of glasses and it's fine. Just be aware that it means you get tipsy quickly! hth. If they are not ssri type, sorry, no idea but DO NOT STOP THEM ABRUPTLY!

I had drunk without realising you aren't meant to and still have the odd glass while staying on them.

definitely do not stop taking them

and a glass of wine will be ok,but alcohol is a depressant anyway if you drink too much of it

You are not supposed to drink with citalopram as it reduces the effects of the drug. Its not dangerous the way it can be to drink with certain painkillers etc but you will probably feel the knockon effect for a couple of days. I used to have a couple of low days if i drank when on them.

They are SSRIs, I take loads, 60 mg a day. You are advised not to drink while taking them, as alcohol is a depressive anyway, and there is a chance you could become really tipsy/ not feel well if you do drink. But...
I do drink while taking them, just go steady to begin with ie just one glass of wine the first night and see how you feel. (This is the advice the hospital gave me)
You should never stop taking ADs without talking to your dr, as not only are you risking getting down again, you may experiance side effects of stopping suddenly.

only going away to s wales with my partner for a nice relaxing weekend to get away from every day pressures.. thanku everyone for your advice..think i better stay off the alcohol then.

in moderation, i've not had a problem with it.

couple of glasses here and there.

in my experience, it's ok in moderation, any more than a couple and I just get very drunk very quickly. On the good side though, the one time I did have more than a couple, i didn't have a headache the next day! Do keep taking the tablets though

i'd have a glass or two with a meal or a picnic, but i don't like to drink wine without food, anyhow.

I still had the odd glass of wine or 2 I just had to put up with a couple of low days afterwards. Sometimes I decided that it was worth it othertimes I decided not to drink at all.

My sil didn't either I just wanted to warn her that it might happen. I've been on 3 different ADs and only had this with citalopram so maybe it just didn't really suit me.

yes, it's different for everyone.

on prozac, it does wonders for my anxiety, but it's so hard for me to 'surface' from sleep.

it's interesting how it affects everyone differently.

My DP drinks on it and doesn't seem to have a problem, but another friend was taking it and couldn't drink at all as it made her feel really strange.

Myself, I take Efexor (venlafaxine), and I still drink. I'm not sure if it makes me tipsy any faster, I don't think I'd even know what I was normally like since I've taken ADs for many many years.
