Lexapro/Escitalopram - Positively needed

I was prescribed this a week ago. It’s definitely heightened my anxiety and I am doubting myself if I have done the right thing in taking it. Had bad experiences before on medication.

Though I do believe part of the way I’m feeling is my anxiety. Making me doubt absolutely everything and put a negative spin on it.

So….to help me through this rough start up time, I would love to hear stories on how it benefits your life. It will help me push on.

Thanks

@Sharpkat i will be rooting for you also. Why is it going to take so long to get the prescription?

Thanks @Blueeveryday I need to wait for a
private psychiatrist to write to to my NHS GP. That will take two weeks. Then I will need to get the GP to issue a prescription. Seems to be very long winded.

Has anyone else a positive story to share please? Feeling very deflated tonight.

It's been really good for me. I've tried various ones and tried coming off but I think I'm on meds forever and I'm fine with that.

I do think for me I causes a bit of numbness and I'm not immune from stress or challenges. I'm going through a difficult time now and I'm thinking of upping my dose.

But there's things I've been able to do on this that I couldn't on others. I've massively improved if not fully overcome my huge claustrophobia and few of lifts. I've had surgery which I was convinced I'd die during (it was v low risk).

I've been on escitalopram on and off for 19 years, it made me feel worse to start with but then helped me out massively and I couldn't be without it now

Hang in there, it'll get better 🙂

Feeling very low. Due to increase dose this week from 5mg to 10mg.

Sharpkat · 20/11/2023 19:15

Hopefully the dose increase will help @Blueeveryday
I will keep checking in.

Blueeveryday · 20/11/2023 20:36

Thank you @Sharpkat

I have suddenly hit a brick wall with tiredness also from yesterday. Can barely keep my eyes open.

Sharpkat · 20/11/2023 20:38

@Blueeveryday early night for you. I have felt like this before on other meds. Sometimes just a dark room and eyes closed helps a bit. Hope you manage to get a good night. Flowers

Sharpkat · 21/11/2023 20:32

@Blueeveryday how are you today?

Blueeveryday · 21/11/2023 20:48

@Sharpkat thanks for checking in. Not feeling great tbh. Very overwhelmed, tired and anxious.

OP posts:
Sharpkat · 21/11/2023 20:49

@Blueeveryday thinking of you. Hopefully the side effects will wear off and the tablets will kick in soon Flowers

mirabella84 · 22/11/2023 20:27

How's everyone doing on escitalopram?

My ds is still tired and waking up at 4am not being able to sleep, so he struggles to get up the next day.

However things do seem to be very slowly settling down. Guess now it's a wait to see if it takes the edge off the ocd ruminations.

MovingAnxiety · 24/11/2023 17:21

Can those that are on or have been on escitalopram tell me how it’s affected their libido or weight?

I have been prescribed it but too worried to take them.

Blueeveryday · 24/11/2023 17:27

@mirabella84 how is your ds? Keep in contact with your doctor if he is finding the increase tough. I have upped my dosage today from 5mg to 10mg.

How are you feeling @Blueeveryday?

Blueeveryday · 25/11/2023 11:14

@Sharpkat Day 2 of the increased dose and anxiety is more heightened, but I’m expecting that. I’m just waiting to feel relief but I know it’s probably weeks before I feel anything

OP posts:
Sharpkat · 25/11/2023 19:08

@Blueeveryday one day at a time. Hopefully it will kick in soon 💐

Blueeveryday · 27/11/2023 18:49

Palpitations got me like 😮‍💨 hoping they subside soon 🥵

OP posts:
Sharpkat · 27/11/2023 19:16

@Blueeveryday so sorry to hear about the palpitations. Hope you can have a relaxing evening and get some sleep Brew

mirabella84 · 29/11/2023 11:01

My ds side effects on 20mg (2 weeks at this dose) have worn off, sleeping better and waking up earlier.

Also getting on with his day in a more positive way although the ocd ruminations are still there.

Let's see.

Blueeveryday · 02/12/2023 17:34

@AlltheJays23 How are u getting on with the lexapro? I’m 3 weeks in on 5mg, one of which is 10mg. Last weekend I felt n good but that seems to have vanished.

OP posts:
HangingOver · 02/12/2023 17:35

Push through. It's marvellous stuff.

Blueeveryday · 02/12/2023 23:52

@HangingOver I am going to absolutely, I hope eventually it will kick in! What mg do you take?
