Im on sertraline and my GP suggested taking them for 6 months. I’m coming to the end of 5 and I’m really not sure I could function without them. She wants me to go back with a view to slowly coming off them.
Am I ok to keep on them if I feel I need them? How long have you been on them?

I think you have power in this decision. My DH has been on antidepressants for a while and every now and then he and the doctor will review the situation. The doctors always asks him "What do you want to do? Continue with this dose or reduce it?". It's always my DH's decision. If you're not ready to come off them then you can say.

Hello! My GP initially said to try anti anxiety meds for 6 months but when I had my review I was told that they prefer you to try them for 12 months before considering a reduction.

I take a very low dose and I don’t even know if I am feeling better because of the meds or because time has passed - either way I don’t want to risk stopping them for now. My GP is happy for me to continue with them. I will shortly be approaching the 2 year mark.

I think if they are helping then just ask to stay on them - it’s early days.

The first GP that prescribed me sertraline said I would be on them at least 6 months. I have now been on them 5 years. No one has ever pressured me to come off them. I've been fairly slowly reducing my dose over the past year, but that was at my suggestion because I feel I'm ready.
