I’m happy to go private to avoid NHS waiting lists but have heard private can be dodgy in regards to getting a proper assessment and accurate diagnosis. I just want a proper diagnosis but don’t know where to turn to. Anyone been down this path or heard of Dr Stephen Humphries

I don't know where you live but I work with a NHS service in Scotland who assess for ADHD. Now your child is 18 there would be a referral to adult services - no idea what their waiting times are. What I do know that here in Scotland if you go to a private clinic and need ADHD medication it can be very costly. Cannot comment on the accuracy but would like to think that any private clinic would provide a full assessment for your child. Good luck I know it is not easyx

You can ask for a referral to Psychiatry UK from your GP. They are approved through the NHS but shorter waiting times.

If you look them up it tells you all the info you need.

Only if you’re in England.

5-9 year wait where I am in Wales. I went private to a very well regarded expert. The NHS won’t pick up the meds until
I’ve been through their process.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll definitely look up Psychiatry UK. I’m just very wary of possible shoddy diagnosis risk - a recent documentary was absolutely scathing of the private sector not being entirely ethical. I just want to find someone i can trust and get a proper diagnosis
