Hi All, I have been taking 15 mg Mirtazapine to assist with sleep since August 2017. Earlier this year I decided I would like to stop taking it if I could due to the weight gain. I slowly reduced to 11.25 mg for a month then 7.5 mg for a month and I have been taking 3.75 mg for about the last six weeks.
I got into bed on Sunday night and didn't sleep a wink, I got up and took another 3.75 got back into bed then got up and took another 7.5 so 15 mg in total but still could not get to sleep.
I am going on holiday to America next week so am starting to worry this is going to build up and I won't sleep before I go on holiday or when I get there.
Last night I went for a swim at about 7.00 and took 7.5 mg about 10.00 pm getting into bed at 10.30, it got to 11.00 and I still hadn't nodded off so I took another 7.5 mg and 1 mg Diazepam.
The doctor gave me the Diazepam a couple of years ago for when I had another bout of insomnia, I haven't really taken many of them but broke a 2 mg tablet and took the 1 mg last night and I got off to sleep pretty much straight away.
This morning, however I am now worried that I won't sleep tonight if I don't take a Diazepam, I am not going to take one even if I can't get to sleep, I was hoping it might just break the cycle.
Sorry for the rambling but what do you all think.
I did think about taking 7.5 mg about 9.45 pm then another 7.5 mg about 10.30 pm or should I drop back down to 3.75 then another if I need it, I have read all the threads about it making you more sleepy at a lower dose.
As you can see I am a total over thinker but I am really anxious about not ruining my holiday I have looked forward to for so long. I would also like to avoid having to go back to the doctor.
What dose do you think would be best and thank you all :)

Can't read and run but you really need to see your GP or at least have a phone conversation. I also take 15 mg Mirtazapine but for anxiety not for sleeplessness. It has removed my anxiety and I no longer have panic attacks but yes the weight gain :-( is awful. In your place seeing that you are very anxious about your holiday I'd go back to taking the 15 mg for now.

Watching with interest. I keep trying to cut down and end up having to give up because of this.

I'd say talk to your doctor too. Unfortunately mine doesn't seem to know much, they said I should be able to just come off them cold turkey 🤷‍♀️ if you get better advice it'd be great to hear.
