Hi.

I’ve been on sertraline for nearly 10 years, there’s been ups and downs but overall sertraline saved my life. For the past 2 months the anxious feelings have been too much to bare some days. I don’t know what to do. Spoken to my gp, all they have suggested is to up my dose and put me on a waiting list to speak to someone. I need help now, some days it gets so bad I think dark thoughts of not being here any more. I’m scared. Any advice I would be truly grateful. Thank you

I hear you OP. You are having a tough time and it sounds like MH meds not effective at the moment. My advice is tell your GP you'd like to try betablockers. I'm on propanonol, after 20 years of various MH meds and some serious diagnosis (hence name) it's the 1 thing that's helped me immediately. Anxiety is at the root of so many conditions and I know how hard it is but I found betablockers to start helping the physiological symptoms of anxiety, slowing heart rate etc and it's life changing. If you have dark thoughts please call Samaritans.org now. 💐

how are you today OP? what dose of sertraline are you on and what are they suggesting you take? I've found that increases of 25mg are sometimes enough to get me over a blip.

Just offering a handhold op, I'm struggling too. After quite a scary night recently I've accepted I need to seek medication. I've had sertraline in the past and it didn't make a difference but I think I need to try again or something else. Have you looked to see if there's a link to your cycle? I think mine is possibly PMDD.

Op

see the brand you have now - make a note and make sure you never get them again

we used to ring the pharmacy in advance to find out what they had in and kept ringing others to get the preferred brand.

if you ask the Gp they brush you off and say impossible but no it’s not and I’ve seen it with my own eyes

consider saying you lost your tablets and getting another script issued

I suffer with anxiety. Started taking fluoxedine after baby blues, every time I have come off them I really suffer. Menopause is hitting and my anxiety is going through the roof. My DM suffers with anxiety and self medicated with alcohol and smoking so am really mindful if that too. Making an appointment now with Dr for meds review

I’m sorry to hear you all have struggles as well. It’s not nice experiencing these feelings. Haven’t had a good day today, it’s been hard to calm the physical symptoms today. Seems to be all in my stomach. I’m on 50mg of sertraline a day at the moment. I use rescue remedy droppers as well. Hope you are all having a better day today

Do you find the rescue remedy droppers do anything or do you think they are a placebo?

I think 50mg is kind of a starting dose for sertraline, that's quite low. I was still having quite awful anxiety on 50mg and once I upped to 100mg it got rid of it all for me 🤞🏼 that was 6 months ago and I've had no anxiety since touch wood xxx

I’m not sure to be honest. I do feel a bit calmer with taking them

I was on 100mg last year and I wanted to lower them an eventually come off but obviously that was the wrong idea. Hope you are doing well

I’m sorry to hear you are struggling at the moment. Maybe a different medication would suit you better. It’s all trial an error I suppose. Hope today has been a better day for you

I always get told the branding does not matter. The tablets work the same way. I do think I’m being fobbed off half the time.
