Hi no I'm not on chlomipramine anymore

kizziee · 26/04/2023 19:56

Thanks so much for replying @FreddyP did you find switching to something else ok and did you find it helpful ?
(I had been well on low dose clomipramine for a long time but had an awful relapse and not sure if Clomipramine is going to work again. May need to switch to something else.)

I was on them for 27 years and they did help but they had to take me off them and I'm now on sertraline which is possibly working better it's just a case of building my confidence up? Are you still on chlomipramine?

Yes I’m still on it but really struggling after starting to increase dose after a horrible relapse. I’m at that stage where I can’t imagine getting well again. I also find that my anxiety really increases even more with it initially. It also tends to take a long time to kick in for me so it’s difficult to tell whether to work or not.
it’s good that sertraline working well for you. Was the switch difficult ?

I'm not going to lie it was very difficult because the doctor tapered me off 200mg chlomipramine in 8 weeks which was way to fast and I then ended up in a bad way as you can get withdrawal if you taper to fast so just be aware of that if you switch, honestly I thought I would never get better so I completely understand I couldn't even swallow food my anxiety was so severe but I'm much better than I was, I must say though starting sertraline can be hard for some people as you can get side effects but for other people it's a life saver, hope you're OK I remember thinking like you and its awful 😖 x

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Did they give you anything like diazepam to help with the switch? How long would you say it took to settle.
it’s interesting that you now don’t actually miss the clomipramine

Hello I was on clomipromine for years for anxiety and ocd. Eventually realised it was the cause of my chronic tachycardia so they said I needed to switch. I was very apprehensive but have been on sertraline for a few years now with no issues.

I think if you taper slowly enough and have a good GP supervising (not that I did!) you’ll be fine. Good luck

FreddyP · 27/04/2023 07:14

@kizziee I've always been on diazepam even when on chlomipramine but I am now taking a lot less diazepam on sertraline which I thought would never happen and was convinced chlomipramine was the only AD that would help me

kizziee · 27/04/2023 17:10

Thank you both so much. Do you mind if I ask what doses you take of the sertraline
