University counselling services...then and now

I'm in my 40s. Years ago when I was a University student I got 3 years of free counselling via the university counselling service. I was a very troubled girl with a painful background. I was allowed counselling for as long as I needed it and there was never any question over it.

I'm shocked that these days my university only offers 6 sessions of short solution based counselling and students with trauma are not legible due to their level of need. Such students have to contact their gp or a mental health line. Basically there is nothing there for them.

Wtf?! Is this due to an increase in demand for mental health services? And lack of funding? I don't know where I would have been without the counselling I had. I feel really upset that kids these days just don't have access to the services I had.

Cost plus level of need, yes. Most free counselling is 6-8 sessions these days.

There is very high demand now.
