Straight switch from Citalopram to Escitaloprám experiences

Just wondering if anyone has done a straight switch from Citalopram to Escitaloprám?

I have been on Citalopram for over 10 years going between 20mg and 40mg, currently taking 40mg. It has worked wonders but after a traumatic couple of years it seems to have stopped working and I am suffering with terrible anxiety and possibly now also depression :(

I am so scared of coming off Citalopram partly because I have been well on it for so long and partly because of the side effects of coming off it. As Escitaloprám is similar would I necessarily get the side effects 🤔 The Dr said I could just start on 20mg and just stop Citalopram (he did say not ideal but needs must).

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this they could share.

@Karmakamelion thank you for your response. Do you mind me asking how long you were on Citalopram for and what strength?

@Karmakamelion I took my first dose of Escitaloprám his morning, 10mg. Took my last 40mg of Citalopram yesterday morning. Do you mind me asking how you did the swap? I mean what was your Citalopram dose and did you taper down before starting Escitaloprám or do a straight switch like me?

Sorry just saw your reply . I was on 40 mg of citalopram for the last 2 years and less for 7 years before that. I swapped straight over to 20 mg of escitalopram with no ill effects

Roxy1988 · 20/08/2022 15:55

@Elliejane I didn't carry on with the Escitaloprám but I did switch to Venlafaxine which is helping
