Skin picking

I've recently gone through a separation and have fallen into bad habits - one of them is skin picking. My scalp is so sore but I can't stop picking at the scabs. I'm not too sure what to do to stop this, has anyone else been through something similar?

@YouLookinSusBro oh no I'm so sorry :( that's positive that it isn't as bad as it has been, but I know it's a slippery slope. Has anything in the past worked for you?

Yes, being unstressed. Am suffering from work burnout at the moment and need to find a new job. Conversely the state of my hair is putting me off doing anything. Not been to hairdressers in years because of bald spots 😞

Skin picking (and other subconscious habits) respond very well to hypnosis as they are almost always a self-soothing mechanism that started in a time when you had no agency over what was happening in your life so you turned to the one thing you could control; your own body.

So true!! Unfortunately I've tried hypnosis twice and it's not worked. Have come to the conclusion I don't respond to hypnosis

@YouLookinSusBro - sadly true. About 10% of people simply don't respond to hypnosis, for no apparent reason and certainly through no fault of their own. 10% are 'super' responders and the vast majority are somewhere in between.

Not sure if it will help but there’s a psychiatrist from the US that does MH info videos, she’s called Dr Tracy Marks & she has a video on this

Having a really bad day with this today
I've made an absolute mess of my face
I'm starting to think the only solution for me to put full make up on everyday even when I'm not leaving the house

fedup what I used to do was slather any dry/crusty bits in Vaseline or similar, at bedtime or if I wasn't going out. It softened it enough that I couldn't find an "edge" to pick. If that makes sense? My face has cleared up from doing this. I still get the occasional spot even though I'm in my 40s and I still pick at it but I do this, and it's not so bad. Also, double/triple cleansing has really helped clear my skin right up and I rarely get spots now. I also use a liquid exfoliator regularly to get rid of any dry skin. It's really helped me. Good luck.... I know how awful it can be Flowers
