Hi all,

I’ve posted a few times about my anxiety and declining mental health.

I’m finally on antidepressants, after 3 appointments with the mental health nurse at my local practice.

So far the only side effects I’ve had are vivid dreams and slightly clenching my jaw and pupils being a bit big. Wish I went on them years ago…

What have your experiences been with Sertraline?

I found them totally useless. They don't sort out the issue which caused the depression and it's always there (still is) as 'the elephant in the room'. But I hope they have a beneficial effect on your mood.

I've been on them for a good few months now and found them so much better than fluexotine! I had a few side effects for a couple of weeks then they went away and I feel good.

I do agree that anti depressants don't sort out the cause but definitely a help along side counselling x

I've found it really helpful. It seems to have reduced the physical feeling of my negative emotions, so if I feel angry or guilty it's more a thought than a feeling if that makes any sense? It has made it much easier to stay calm with the kids and I've stopped obsessing about negative thoughts.

I’ve just started on Sertraline today. So I’m finding it interesting reading these posts.

I’m just hoping they take the edge of things.

I’m so irritable and shouty most days. I really try not to be snappy with my kids but some days I am. And feel totally awful about this.
So it’s good to hear others experiences.

My DD (23, student, living away) started Sertraline a couple of weeks before Christmas. She was home for a month and I saw her transform before my eyes. It's been miraculous.

So it’s worth taking?
I need to not be depressed to get the energy to get out of the situation that is making me depressed!
Will it help?

TheRealMummyPig · 17/02/2022 09:05

Do they cause you to feel sleepy or less alert in any way?

Valenciaoranges · 17/02/2022 22:29

I take 150mg in the morning, then Quetiapine in the afternoon and evening. Never noticed any issues with Sertraline tbh.

TikTokCat · 21/02/2022 20:03

Really really helpful for me. Only side effects has been jaw clenching

linmanuel · 22/02/2022 00:37

Yes I had jaw clenching and occasionally chattering
I am off them now by the way. It does help. Love and light to you

LemonViolet · 22/02/2022 00:41

I used it a while ago now, but only really helped once I got up to 150-200mg. No side effects, they were brilliant when I needed them.

I went back on a second time a few years later and was really frustrated they made me start gradually at 25mg-50mg again as I knew that was basically homeopathic for me. Ah well.

Chummy21 · 22/02/2022 08:56

I'm on day 11 of Sertraline, 50mg. Jaw clenching is awful but noticed on Sunday it had stopped! Having a few gastric worries and not sure it's part of the sertraline side effects (health anxiety). I'm feeling more calm and not as tearful, GP will review in another 2 weeks. Really nervous about increasing dose though.

Booksbooksbooks77 · 22/02/2022 22:23

I’ve been on these a week now, have felt sick everyday and usually all day. Also very achy legs and shaky legs when sitting down.
Hoping these side effects calm down in the next few days.

Teaandsleep · 26/02/2022 13:13

It’s now been 27 days for me and the only side effects changed are increased anxiety and a bit of insomnia which hasn’t been too nice but definitely hasn’t put me off taking them.

I’ve noticed my anxiety spiralling and thinking catastrophically about things has lessened slightly. Definitely not gone but it’s not as bad
