I have a job interview in 2 hours and I can’t stop crying

It’s for a while position at DH’s work. He suggested I apply for it and helped me with the application. I’m not qualified and I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. The interview is at 5 online and I’m going to look like such an idiot. I’m supposed to be preparing but I can’t stop crying because I’m not clever or capable enough and I’m going to let DH down and look stupid in front of his colleagues.

Well done, glad to hear the second interview went well! Fingers crossed for you. I start in a couple of weeks, so just getting everything sorted this week, tying up loose ends with my business and filling in endless forms for the new job! I'm sure I'll be fine once I settle in, but its all so foreign to me at the moment, so I'm having a bit of a wobble. Hope you hear from yours soon.

PatchworkElmer · 14/02/2022 14:19

Good luck to you!

JacquelineCarlyle · 14/02/2022 19:13

Well done Op - sounds great & like you've done yourself proud!

HelloDulling · 14/02/2022 19:17

Well done. And, whether you get this one or not, your career break is for child rearing, not a spell in prison for drug trafficking! It’s fine!

Cerridwen83 · 15/02/2022 15:16

Well done!!

The joy about an online interview is that you can keep a piece of paper handy next to you! bonus! just write down a list of skills that they are looking for and put an example of how you have that skill next to it - just has to be a word or two to jog your memory. Have a copy of your application too and a glass of water. you'll be fine!

Bloody hell, I got it!! And I know it’s terribly gauche to mention, but they’re offering me more money than I’ve ever been paid before in my life Confused Even DH said “bloody hell!” when I showed him the email.

Thank you so much everyone who posted such lovely supportive replies on this thread. I know I’m going to struggle with feeling like I’m not up to the job (and certainly not worth that much), so if anyone has any suggestions for dealing with imposter syndrome I’d be interested and grateful.

Wow well done.
I'm sure they will train you up a bit, so just make sure first day you are dressed well, take notes and are keen to listen.
After a few months you will likely have settled in and be feeling more confident.

Well done, that's amazing news!

Re imposter syndrome: I've worked professional jobs for quite a few years now, and have always had very positive feedback, been promoted etc. Yet the little voice in my head is always there, telling me it's just a matter of time until they find out I have no idea what I'm doing. I've accepted that I can't switch it off entirely, but I can treat it as something separate from me, like an annoying background noise. I also put on my work personality (where I am confident, reassuring and decisive), as part of what my employer pays me for. They employ a confident member of staff, so that's what they're getting. I hope that makes any sense...

Ah brilliant news @Interviewdisaster!! Massive and well deserved congratulations Flowers

RoyKentsChestHair · 18/02/2022 17:12

Ah amazing!! Congratulations on the job and the pay rise - not gauche at all to be pleased that you’re considered worthy of a chunk of cash!! Maybe look into some counselling to work on the imposter syndrome and set yourself up for success Flowers
