My teenager has overdosed 4 times.

Any advice. I hide the medicine but she finds it or stores it up.

What can I do?

I have had similar issues with my DD so you have my sympathies. I bought a lockable metal box (the type used for petty cash) and keep all medicine in there, and keep the key on me at all times, which does help. Unfortunately though, the reality is that if they really want to hurt themselves they will find a way. Is she receiving mental health support? It took 3 hospital stays due to suicide attempts before we finally started getting some proper help, and I really had to fight for it, but now that’s it’s there we are in a much better place.

Has the hospital just let her home without a referral for help?

She says if I buy a lock box she will buy the same one and use the identical key.

I think Camhs will stop providing her medicine once they know this has happened again. They said they would last time.

She has taken melatonin. But she hides codeine and threatens to buy paracetamol.

She refuses to go to the hospital or have the emergency services to the home.

I don’t quite understand. If she has taken an overdose and is very I’ll, wouldn’t you just call an ambulance?

Or is it a bit like cutting - just enough to bring her to an edge, but never over it?

Is she going to school?

Why does she have melatonin? What are its effects?

Buy a money box. They all have different keys. It you could get one with a code dial.

I do call an ambulance. She refuses to be seen by them

Cry for help. You need to move on from this. It needs to be referred stop it now. Been there done all this..stop it now.
