Sertraline question

Hi , finally opened up to GP and was advised to start on Sertraline 50mgs one a day

Took my first yesterday around 7pm , I don't sleep well at best of times but have felt jittery, had a nightmare and slight nausea since

This morning still slight nausea , loose stool and absolutely no appetite . Slight woozy feeling but managed to do all I need and drive so not very bad

I've had 1 !

Could I be imagining all of this or could they affect me with immediate affect ?
I'd be happy if the reduced appetite stayed as I can't cope with any more weight

Am I correct that 2-4 weeks before a positive effect ?
Can anyone share their experience ?
Do side effects settle or continue ?
Thank you all

I had a couple of weeks of feeling spaced out, less appetite, then settled. Ended increasing from 50-100mg and didn’t really have side effects that time.
I love Sertraline so much. I’m me minus anxiety. Changed my life and should have done it years ago.

I’m on week 4 for anxiety and panic attacks, have just separated and moved. I felt awful for first week, bad nausea but GP gave me anti sickness and anxiety was worse. I’ve ridden the storm and mood is better but I’ve no emotions so hoping that comes back. I’ve lost well over a stone as got zero appetite so every cloud! My sleep has been really bad for past few years and it hasn’t improved unfortunately

Take them in the morning, particularly if you don't sleep particularly well in general.

Washinglinewench29 · 21/10/2021 10:35

Taking it at night is a game changer. I was so unwell taking it in the mornings.

cushioncovers · 21/10/2021 16:57

Yep I also have to take them at night didn't get on well taking them in the mornings.

Sorry to jump in. I have just been prescribed 50mg, feeling anxious about taking them after reading some of the side effects. I was planning on starting tomorrow as it’s 1/2 term here so a little less busy.

cushioncovers · 22/10/2021 17:18

Hi MrsBanks most gp's try to start people on 50mg but you don't have to. A lot of us end up starting on 25mg because of the side effects. Start on 25mg if you feel happier and build up from there. Obviously keep in touch with your GP and let them know.

MrsBanks · 22/10/2021 18:01

Thanks cushioncovers. Think I will stay in 25mg. Hopefully they help. Feel like I am going slightly crazy at the moment.

hazelgrey · 22/10/2021 18:27

I only had side affects for a day or so , been ok on the 50mgs , it's not so bad

MrsBanks · 22/10/2021 19:44

Thank you hazlegray. Pleased to hear you didn't suffer the side effects like others have.

greyspade · 22/10/2021 19:56

The side effects were instant for me (1 hour maybe). I started on 100mg which I've later realised is really rare. The side effects lasted 2 weeks with the worst being insomnia after the first day or so but I was able to continue to get into work etc and within honestly 2-3 days I felt my mood lift so much that I wondered at first if I was imagining it but nope, they were a god send for me!
I've heard somewhere that it's a good sign if you're having side effects because it means the drug is working on you. Some people feel absolutely nothing - good or bad.
I so hope they help you, my advice is hang in there

I have read that Sertraline can cause suicidal urges in the below 25..Would anyone have any experience of this?

cushioncovers · 23/10/2021 16:33

Where did you read that Mare? You don't normally get prescribed less than 25mg.

cushioncovers · 23/10/2021 16:34

Did you mean under 25 years old ?

MareofBeasttown · 23/10/2021 16:40

Sorry, I posted in a hurry. Yes, I meant people under 25 years old.
