Hi BennyBean Smile

Do you know what triggered the anxious feelings? And have you spoken to anyone yet (apart from on here) about getting help?

bridgeofslides · 02/10/2021 14:13

Hi there I also suffer with debilitating anxiety. I have been prescribed beta blockers (propanalol) it's actually the first thing that's taken the edge off it at all. Please see your gp anxiety won't just go away on its own it's ghastly

Hi @BennyBean,

I've had some really anxious periods too and I know how horrible it is. Better days are ahead of you!

I've found supplements helpful too, obviously everyone is different but fish oil, magnesium and B12 seem to help me.

HI, New here just trying to find some anxiety help x

Jaffacake007 · 06/10/2021 13:12

Hi

Sorry to hear you're suffering OP. I was on citalopram for about 8 months and it really helped me with postnatal anxiety... however I had to stop taking them last month because I had to take specific antibiotics which interacted with them

I have restarted the citalopram a couple of days ago... I have also been prescribed propanlol for my increased heart rate etc and panic attacks which I seem to have daily at the moment!

I'm almost too anxious to take the propanlol... has anyone had good experiences with this and can basically persuade me to start taking it? Grin

ACCx · 06/10/2021 13:21

Hi @Jaffacake007 I occasionally take propanolol and it’s always been fine. No side effects at all for me.

Teaorcoffee12 · 06/10/2021 13:23

I have had a look for some potential life saving help

Hi Smile do you take them as and when you need to, and how much do you take? Just looking at the box now and mine says 20mg twice a day. I think I will start taking them today as I feel like I'm just about surviving every day, if that makes sense?

I've read some reviews online that they have really helped people with anxiety but I've recently been diagnosed with a blood clot (thanks covid) with pneumonia on top so I'm taking blood thinners and I'm super paranoid about taking drugs in case they interact with each other Confused

I have low dose diazepam to take too as and when because my anxiety triggers TMJ and I literally can't move my face or eat properly for weeks. Obviously they really don't like giving this out and I just take 2mg before bedtime!

ACCx · 06/10/2021 13:43

Ahh I’m sorry to hear about the blood clot. Yes I just take it as and when needed. Doesn’t make me drowsy or anything like that. I just find that my heart rate goes back to normal. I don’t take them unless I’m having palpitations as that’s all I find them useful for. Im sure they must be safe to take with your other medication otherwise your doctor wouldn’t have given them to you. My box also has medication instructions to so many a day but like I say I only take them as and when :) x

Thanks so much Smile That's really reassured me. I think I'll try taking one next time I'm panicky and see how I get on x

Newlyanxious · 15/10/2021 20:11

Hello everyone.

I’ve developed anxiety since having my baby 11 months ago. Not sure if it’s being a new mum, the pandemic, or other factors but I am really struggling with health anxiety and worry nearly every week that I have some sort of cancer. Mad I know. I’ve turned down medication in the past through fear of it changing my personality.
Do any of you have positive experiences on anxiety medication where they didn’t change who you were?

Thank you!

Hello Smile

I was extremely anxious during my pregnancy and was even worse postnatal. I had a few health conditions which then triggered health anxiety alongside postnatal anxiety.

I started taking 10mg citalopram (lowest dose) when I was 9 months postpartum because it got to the point where my mental health was affecting my physical health and I just couldn't continue the way I was going. I put off taking antidepressants for sooo long because I kept reading on the internet about side effects.

It took about 3 months for me to feel the full effect but I can honestly say it changed my life for the better. I went back to work after mat leave SO confident, more so than I would have been pre-baby. I had some side effects for the first few weeks but little by little these diminished and I felt better.

It didn't change who I was at all, I didn't feel 'numb'. My personality definitely hasn't changed. I don't know if this is pure luck or the fact I was on a low dosage. I didn't have any long-term side effects. I still occasionally worried / felt anxious etc but I no longer had panic attacks and I felt like I could cope in stressful situations and I stopped over-thinking.

I haven't tried CBT yet but I intend to soon and I think it will really help with the health anxiety side of things especially. I too would often worry I had cancer etc for the most minor symptoms and I would spend hours daily googling illnesses and medications and getting myself so worked up. X

do breathing exercises help does anyone know?

rainbowninja · 22/11/2021 13:18

@emilyisag88 I recently started reading a book called 'the healing power of the breath', it has audio exercises too. I haven't done all the exercises yet but it seems helpful, it teaches you how to slow your breath right down. Might be worth a look!
