Can mental health nurses prescribe antidepressants?

I have a phone call with a mental health nurse who is attached to my GP surgery, in the next couple weeks regarding my anxiety/ feeling depressed.

Can they prescribe antidepressants or are they just going to recommend courses etc?

Sort of a double post, I’m just so anxious what’s going to happen during the call! Sad I guess that’s the nature of the condition, sigh.

Yes, mine did.

It depends if they have the right qualification. They’ll need an independent prescribing qualification. It might say on the surgery website.

Some can, most cannot. If they can't, they can feedback to the GP who can prescribe based on the nurse's assessment.

Thanks! I just looked it up and yes they are an independent prescriber, that’s a relief. Thanks again.
