I've been trying to cope without medication, after a bad experience with sertraline a few months ago. I really wanted to do it on my own, but I'm just struggling too much. Please tell me what has helped you.

@NHSmummy84

I take magnesium supplements. The magnesium has helped tremendously. Had sertraline for a few months which I didn’t like. I was keen to try a more natural remedy. Also, have you had your vitamin D levels checked? It really is a horrible thing to suffer from. I’ve recommend the magnesium to a couple of other people, who have said it’s helped a lot. I work in healthcare science so I did quite a lot of research into the use of magnesium for anxiety. There is a lot of scientific backing for it.
That’s really good to hear! I was on Citalopram for over a decade, but it didn’t really help. I’ve been in Mirtazapine for two years now, and it has helped me sleep (I used to get four hours a night maximum), but I have put on a lot of weight. I now want to come off it, and I have started taking Magnesium supplements. I’m really hoping they help.

Thank you all for your responses. I have so much respect for those who have been struggling for years with this. It's all quite new to me and completely bewildering.

I have used Sertraline very successfully and am currently using Fluoxetine successfully. It took about a month to adjust though as it initially increased the anxiety Hmm.

One thing to be very careful with is not taking any supplements* which have a similar function as SSRIs. I did this and gave myself Sertraline syndrome which was bloody awful.

*like St John’s Wort or HTP5 etc

Out of interest- any of you ladies have children? I do know that generally reaching for help is smiled upon , however at the same time I worry about potential label ms put on me (she can’t cope etc) I can. But I’d like help. But am really nervous about it

@Dontwannagiveausernamethankyou
I have 2 DC both under 5, my anxiety started to get worse when I was pregnant with DS1, I went to the doctor as I was struggling to even leave the house to go to work without panic attacks, I was prescribed diazepam to take as and when needed, I now take it very rarely as it makes me a complete zombie, but it gives me a calm and safe feeling that I needed, I did true sertraline but that kept me feeling like a zombie, and I didn't want my kids to see me like that. I still take diazepam occasionally but it's less than once a month nowadays. I wasn't judged by my doctor at all, and despite my fears, my husband didn't divorce me, and social services didn't take my kids away!

Fluroxetine has been a lifesaver and citalopram is amazing for anxiety …it all depends what the triggers are !! I can only give advice as a third party.💐

My husband takes 300mg pregablin twice daily for pain relief and he's a so miserable. Wouldn't like to see him off them my life would be hell. He's always taking mitzaphine occasionally when he can't sleep and think they definitely knock him out. I am thinking of going drs and asking for some help but I would worried about what side effects and if they give you the zombie effect. I can drop to sleep at the drop of a hat now and struggle to do normal things during the day because of it.

I take mirtazapine (30mg) it has helped with the anxiety more than the depression I'd say. Worth a go if you also struggle with sleep.
