I've recently started on 30mg mirtazapine. I had the increased appetite and sleepiness but them side effects have died down now. I want to start a diet to lose some weight but I'm worried it won't happen because of the mirtazapine 🤔

Mirtazapine doesn't cause weight gain on its own just increased appetite in the initial period. If that's died down you should be fine to lose weight.

I lost about a stone and a half I think while in mirtazapine when I got married (this weight gain was pre stating the ADs) and it wasn't any harder to lose it than any previous weight loss (obviously it was easier in my 20s but you know what I mean!!).

I've had a bigger appetite on it, but have actually still lost rather than gained in the time I've been on it. I do have to keep a close eye on what I eat and keep myself active.

Also, sadly I can't say that the appetite increase has died down after the initial phase. It seems to be a permanent feature for me on mirtazapine. I've quit and restarted a couple of times, and the difference when coming off the meds is very clear. Still, on the whole haven't done well without them, so I persevere.

I gained weight at first but I'm now the lowest I've weighed in 15 years, just by following a healthy eating and increased exercise plan.
It can make you hungry but you don't have to gain weight on it.
