This thread is a follow on to the original handhold thread- for those beginning or continuing their journey on sertraline. All are welcome.

This is a supportive thread, where all situations are unique and there is no judgement.

Thank you
To be honest I’m thinking of coming off it and hopefully clearing my head!

@alseb I'm not sure about how coming off one medication and going onto another really works, and the best thing would be to speak to your doctor about how you're feeling and your concerns. I've been back on sertraline for about 16 months and it took a good 10-12 weeks for me to feel its full benefit. I hope that you feel better soon.

@BirdFriday hang on in there. It's still early days. It's good you are noticing a few little improvements. I am one of those people that really struggled with side effects when I started, and things felt worse before they got better. It takes a while to build up and feel its full benefit. Definitely keep going. Be kind to yourself.

So my phone is playing up, I was wondering what painkillers people take when on sertraline. I've had a monster headache today. Paracetamol hasn't helped at all. I've gone and taken some ibuprofen which I avoid because I understand it's not good to take regularly when on sertraline. Does anyone else know what I could take that's more effective than paracetamol? Thanks

BirdFriday · 17/04/2022 22:10

Thanks @mrsdiddlydoo. I'm happy that I've had few side effects so far, but I did read a couple of people say that if you have more side effects then it's more likely to work! I'm not sure that will always be true though.

What dose are you on? I'm just on 50mg at the moment so I expect that helps with side effects. So glad it's helping you!

I’m sorry to post on an old thread, I started my sertraline yesterday (25mg).
I have had untreated PND for 4years after my son was born I knew it was the right decision to do something about it.

I’m trying to keep a really positive outlook on it.
Insomina last night was a killer but I seem fine today (bit dazed this morning).
A little sick and my jaw is clenching like crazy, I have the tension headache in my temples because of the jaw so I’m hoping that eventually goes away.

thank you so much for these threads, they have given me so much hope

popandchoc · 20/08/2022 19:19

Really hope it helps you @Belle82 . I used to have quite a bit of imsomnia first few weeks but my sleep is great now.

I’ve just found this after posting a new thread. I started sertraline a week ago half tablets 25mg still I feel really good on them except I’m clenching my jaw at night and have triggered severe jaw pain I had a decade ago. It took a long time to recover back then and I’m scared this will go chronic again. How long does that jaw clenching last or does it never go away??

I had it badly and it gave me such bad tooth ache I had an emergency dentist appointment thinking I had something terribly wrong!

The bad pain lasted about a week after it started. I do sometimes find myself holding my jaw in tension but no pain

Belle82 · 22/08/2022 20:12

@Cocothebear i only had it for a couple of days if that’s any consolation. It may not last long for you

Hi all, hope I'm OK to jump in here. I've been on 50mg now since February and apart from initial side effects it's been OK. However, Ive had indigestion and reflux on and off since starting. Just lately its getting worse with what can only be described as waves of burning pain right beneath my ribs. My anxiety has kicked up a notch aswell this last week. I feel quite terrified and don't know why...
Just wondered if anyone still has gastric issues this far down the line. Thanks x
