Looking for other peoples perspective on work burnout, off sick with stress, did you return to work or did you take time out to recover and look for another job?

I’ve taken time out from work. A month has helped me re set. I was signed off.

I took time out for about a month and reassessed my situation. Decided to not go back because I knew the situation would be the same when I returned and I would only end up stressed again. I started job hunting and got a job that was infinitely less stressful and I haven’t looked back.

I took three months out. Went back, but to a different team (social worker).
The team I was in at that time was my dream job, turned out I’m not as tough as I thought I was.

I still have times when I feel like I’m getting back to burn out, but know the signs, and take leave much more often now. Even a long weekend helps.

I was off work a couple of years ago with stress, took 6 weeks off and then went back 3 days a week and built it up to 5 days over the course of a few months.
It wasn't easy and there are times now where I feel more overwhelmed than I used to but my company are really supportive so I know I can go to them with anything and they'll help.

Took time off, felt better, went back, got I'll again (very quickly), had to find a new job.

Ultimately you can't heal in the environment that made you sick in the first place.

Me again, thanks for all your input. After 5 wks sick leave I resigned. Boss has said if I’m feeling better in a few months he will reinstate me in a role less stressful.
I’m sleeping so much at the moment tho, feel numb if that makes sense- did any of you experience this excessive sleep (12-14 hrs) and if so when did you start to feel more your ‘old self’

I quit and took a lower paid but much lower stress job with fewer hours. I am so much happier now!

I was a social worker and completely burned out. I took early retirement and am now back at uni doing a part time degree. I am lucky that my DH is a good earner so I didn't need to worry about the financial aspect. I am now fatter but happier!
