Hi, I'm on fluoxetine and I'm on my knees with it. I'm really not coping now. It's made my mental health worse and it's messed up my sleep which was already rubbish. I'm not even sure why I'm posting but I would appreciate some helpful comments or suggestions please!

Amitriptyline is also used as a pain killer for migraines and nerve pain in low doses

PainterInPeril · 17/01/2021 23:12

Bless you! Tbh, I think amitriptyline sounds explosive, like nitroglycerin!GrinGrin Yeah, I know what you mean about having to take so many meds....I worry I'm taking down the NHS single-handedly!BlushWink I hope you sleep well tonight, I'm just off to bed in a minute. If I can get off Mumsnet! Night night xSmile

1979 I didn’t realise it was a painkiller as well. Thanks.
Although it is if no help once I actually have a migraine sadly. But good sleep does it’s part to prevent them. Stress and lack of sleep is a huge trigger for me, so one out of two under control ain’t bad.

FooFightersFan · 18/01/2021 08:21

painter hope you slept some last night x

PainterInPeril · 18/01/2021 10:03

@Llh1979 Yes, I thought it helped pain. I was sure I'd heard that somewhere.
@FooFightersFan I did sleep a lot better thanks. If I could just cure myself from clenching my teeth so tightly..... How are you today?
I hope everyone has a great day. xxSmile

Amitryptiline is the gold standard antidepressant against which all others are benchmarked.

I’ve been on practically every single one going. Amitryptiline for me was fantastic for mood and sleep, but not as good against anxiety. In terms of mood it was only matched by one other drug called Chlomipramine.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow Hi, I'm glad it helps you. I've a feeling that I discussed it with the doctor some time ago, I'm trying to remember what was said. I'll raise it again and see what comes of it.

Amitriptyline gave me acne which I had never had even as a teenager. I woke up to find two huge, red, yellow headed spots - one between my eyebrows and one on - my top lip! I was also extremely twitchy and hearing music when there was none. Both are rare side effects which went as soon as I stopped taking it.

Propranolol (beta blocker), made everything in slow motion.

Nothing like that will ever pass my lips again.

Llh1979 · 18/01/2021 14:12

@PainterInPeril thank you
Heres hoping for us all xx

PainterInPeril · 18/01/2021 17:50

Well, the doctor phoned this afternoon and prescribed a tiny dose of amitriptyline alongside the fluoxetine to help with sleeping and pain. So, we'll see how it goes!

Painter hey that sounds like a good start. I hope the Amitriptyline works for you.
Liz so sorry that it didn’t work out for you. It can be hit or miss with medicines.

KateLink · 19/01/2021 16:05

Dear @PainterInPeril,

Hang in there! It might be Fluoxetine isn't right for you - so def speak with your GP about alternatives.

Also, there are so many therapies available out there that one will help you, you just have to find it. I struggled like you for years and it was Cognitive Hypnotherapy that helped me. I had tried all the usual ones, and some had helped a bit, but not got me out of the anxiety and depression.

No one approach is right for everyone, so have faith that there is a therapy out there that will help you and go and try some out to see what helps. You are not alone.

Sending hugs and lots of luck that you find the therapist /approach that works for you very soon. xxK

Thank you. I'm a bit nervous about starting another new med! But it might be what I need right now. Hugs to all of you. I wish some sort of mental and emotional stability to you all. Flowers

Amitryptiline isn’t really scary to take. It just makes you sleepy.

Gaye08 · 08/05/2021 22:23

Could some one please clear a matter up for me please,
I am on 50mg of Amitriptyline nightly
225mg Thyroxine in the morning and
25mg Citalopram
Is this amount safe to take?
