Do you take sertraline morning or night?

Doctor said it didn’t matter so I have been taking it in the morning. I don’t sleep well, get off to sleep fine then wake up 2-3 hours later. I’m wondering if taking it at night would make this better or worse.

I don’t see how this would help, but it’s worth a try. But if you’re on a high dose, check with your doctor first. You might not be able to take two doses in one day.

And I expect you know this, but always take sertraline after a meal. I used to take it before breakfast and wonder why I felt so queasy.

I take it at nighttime. I think it was because when I first started it made me feel very nauseous in the mornings.

I take all of my medication at night because I have a bad reaction to most medication either feel sick or sleepy and then I can't function at work if I take it in the morning.
You can sleep off most side effects during the night.

I take it in the morning, no side effects. Been on it for 5 months.

I take it in the morning and sometimes struggle to sleep, might try and switch it up.

Only been on it 2 weeks I take 50mg every morning but I am struggling to sleep too so watching this thread with interest x

I would suggest a morning dose on day 1, a lunchtime dose on day 2 and an evening dose on day 3. Vice versa if swapping the other way. Means absolutely NO double dose in a day and not so long between doses when stretching them apart.

Started on nights due to sickness, now on mornings. It still affects my sleep but nothing like as bad when I was talking it at night.

I take mine at night , purely because I have other meds that I take at night and remembering once a day is hard enough!

BogRollSpiderLadder · 02/12/2020 22:26

Bedtime. I’d be even less functional otherwise.

madcatladyforever · 03/12/2020 06:47

I stuggle to sleep on and off it, it's all part of my MH problems I think not the medication.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 05/12/2020 01:29

Does anyone else suffer awful bloatedness and constipation on these? I'm really struggling I'm in again hence why I am up at this time of night 😐

Porridgeoat · 05/12/2020 01:40

Morning as it effects my sleep otherwise. My sleep is better then it was pre sertraline

I'm no longer using but had done on and off for a few years. The last time I'd restarted I was taking them in the evening rather than in the morning (as I had done previously) and it gave me the worst insomnia! After a whole month of struggling to sleep (managing 1-2hrs a night and very close to breaking point) I called my GP in tears and asking him whether Sertaline was the cause. He then told me that it contained something that affected some people's ability to sleep (but not all) and told me to switch using to am. I was beyond livid since my GP was already aware of issues I'd had with lack of sleep, and hadn't thought to warn me that I should take in the morning instead when I being presribed.
Needless to say, I then demanded he give me a week's prescription of strong sleeping pills (I was desperate at this point and really struggling) which he did. Never took sertraline in the evening again, and shortly after came off altogether.
