Does any one know if I can swap meds for 2 days?

Hi all. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can help.

I used to take sertraline for depression but it didn't really help so GP switched me to Mirtazapene. All was going well. Saw the dr every 4 weeks to renew 'script. Then dr said I could have a 8 week prescription as meds were working well.

I tried to book an appointment for 8 weeks time whilst there, as I always did when they were 4 weekly. The system didn't go that far ahead so was told to call in a few weeks. I did this and couldn't get an appt until yesterday. I ran out of Mirtazipine on Saturday (last dose was fri eve) but figured I could survive a couple of days without it.

Well now its out of stock at all the pharmacies I tried (I'm not mentally well enough to traipse around the whole town chasing it, walking to the local pharmacy today and phoning a couple of others wore me out). Soonest I can get it is Thursday.

I feel awful. Completely on edge. Struggling not to unblock ex and tell him how I feel. Intrusive thoughts, although I can ignore them because I know what they are.

I have some Sertraline in the cupboard which is left over. Can I take this for a couple of days? I know it's a different type of anti-depressant so assume not as it wouldn't actually have time to work?

And please don't tell me it's my fault and I should have booked an appointment sooner. I know that.

Or should I call 111 and ask them?
Thanks.
Sorry it's so long. My brain is all jumbled.

I have no idea about the drugs but don’t suffer. Ring 111 or pop into a pharmacy.

Can someone else get to a pharmacy for you?

SRK16 · 10/03/2020 19:48

It won’t work, sertraline takes weeks to build up in your system. Ring 111. Good luck

My mum said she could go but not hotel Thursday. No one else can really.

I had a feeling that was the case @SRK16 . I'll give 111 a call.
Thanks

Please don't swap meds like that with a Dr telling you to. Formularies and online drugs apps are pretty clear that they're not interchangeable. Can a friend ring round the local pharmacies because I understand this is hard work in this moment? After hours if your out of hours gp is co-located with hospital and the hospital pharmacy has stock of mirtaz you might get a couple of days worth till Thursday. In daytime any pharmacy you can find with stock could hopefully give you two to three days if you can show evidence of your most current box or scrip they will get confirmation from surgery.
In every eventuality ring 111 or equivalent if Wales/Scotland.
It's not your fault that the appointments and local stock didn't work out in time so try not to worry/focus your anxiety on that point (which is hard to avoid when you're waiting for meds) so do anything to self soothe and stay chill. I hope these options help you to think a little clearly.

Call your local crisis team (linked to Community Mental Health Team). They will advise you tonight.

Thanks for all the advice. I didnt think I could just take sertraline for a couple of days. (Actually I know I can't but i was feeling desperate). I called 111 who found me a pharmacy with some stock. But I can't get there until tomorrow and they won't let someone else collect on my behalf.
I've had a bath and some junk comfort food, which makes me feel marginally better. I'm going to go to bed as soon as the DC do and hopefully I'll be ok until tomorrow.
