Did sertraline cause you to gain weight?

Been on sertraline for 2 weeks and been reading mixed reports about this. Lost a bit of weight recently and really don't want to put it all on again!

Hi chester, I've been taking sertraline for 2 years and it's had absolutely zero affect on my weight. I put off taking it for a long time because I had decided that antidepressants didn't work (!) but I can honestly say it has had a massive effect on my mood.

I've been on sertraline for about 4 years and it has had zero effect on my weight.

I was party prescribed due to an eating disorder so was really anxious about gaining weight on it. But it's been fine.

That's good to hear, thanks.

I have just come off Sertraline at 50mg after a year and lost a bit of weight from 68kg to 65kg on it (probably because I was doing less emotional eating!)

It was a big big worry for me too.

looondonn · 05/02/2020 22:27

Yes I piled on the weight sadly

crazycatgal · 05/02/2020 22:28

Yes I gained weight whilst on Sertraline, I was on 200mg a day.

I didn't know it could have that affect until I spoke to my GP about my weight gain and she said 'Oh that's probably the Sertraline.'

It's one of the reasons why I decided to come off it (with advice from GP)

I've been on them 2 months and have gained 5lb!

I put on weight but that was because I was feeling better and could eat without feeling anxious (I was underweight before).

Nothing on 200 mg sertraline. A stone in a month on 15mg Mirtazapine Grin

I gained about 2 stones on Sertraline. It also had minimal effect on my symptoms. Wouldn’t take it again. But I think I’m in the minority judging from what others have said about it.
