Anti depressants that woke? Sertraline didn't!

When I was younger I spent several years on an antidepressant/anti anxiety brand name Cipralex (escitalopram) and it really really worked well for me. I've had a long time off pills but the last time I needed them the GP would not longer prescribe Cipralex (I believe there have been concerns over safety relating to the heart) and I was given Sertraline. Tried for 2-3 months but it didn't work at all, in fact made me feel awful and worse mentally. Cipralex worked quickly and was very effective.

I don't know what to do now. I need medication but don't want to go through the 3 months I did with Sertraline. My anxiety is through the roof and I'm struggling to manage it at all.

Can you manage to get yourself a genetic test called GeneSight or equivalent. GeneSight is the Us version. It tests for the genetics that control how much of certain liver enzymes you have. That determines how you are able to process most of the antiDs and therefore how you will react to them/will they work on you.

It has been spot on for me and others I know who have done it

It might also be worth looking at a combination of ADs. I take Mirtazipine at night and Fluoxitine in the morning, and that works pretty well for me.

@SeaToSki that's so interesting. I wouldn't know where to look to get that here in the UK. I'll certainly start googling though!
