Fluoxetine advice please ?

Hi
I've been prescribed Fluoxetine mainly for anxiety but also low mood too.
I've just been feeling overwhelmed and have quite a few challenging things going on.

I've been taking fluoxetine for 5 days but have been feeling quite weird as each day goes on. Feeling a bit spaced out. A bit detached.
I decided last night that I wasn't going to continue but this morning I do feel a little better. A little bit brighter.

I'm just wondering is this normal ?

If I keep taking them will it get better ?

Will I go back to feeling more like me but without all the anxiety ?

Feeling really confused 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any advice would be great, thank you 🙏

One more day to go! Hang in there. Another huge hug, hopefully these days will be just a bad memory very soon.

HotelRoomforOne · 10/06/2019 13:25

Don't worry. Stick with it. By day 16 you should be sleeping better and feeling calmer. Very hard at first but worth it. The excitement at the party will sort of carry you through the day, wait and see.
After taking same meds for about a month I was sleeping better than I had in many years and was a very calm, affectionate parent to 3 and 5 year old. Just hang in there OhCarrie

Thanks @HotelRoomforOne that's definitely where I'd like to be.
So glad that it's worked for you & you are a much calmer, happier mum to your little ones.

So I was meant to have supervision with another member of staff today.
When I told her I was signed off she had said if helpful I could still meet her for a coffee.
This had sounded like a good idea.
I just met her and had to leave as I was a wreck.
Couldn't speak properly. Think I should have cancelled.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad day today.

Personally I'm unable to tolerate coffee on fluoxetine, it makes me jittery. But everyone is affected differently.

You need to keep going, stick it out on the tablets, you will feel so much better soon and life will become 'lighter' again. Those first few weeks are really hard, and the Doctors don't always tell you how hard it is.

CherryPlum · 10/06/2019 23:22

And don't feel bad about your meeting today - you tried, it didn't work, you can put it behind you for now. It was too soon for you that's all.

ohcarriemathison · 11/06/2019 06:04

Thanks @CherryPlum
Went to bed at 8pm last night as felt wiped out.
Slept well and todays a new day.
Day 12.
Got my DS's sports day so hopefully I can manage it.
It just feels there are so many commitments just now.
I think your right about coffee, I should have got water.

Hi
Supervision...is not appropiate when you are signed of sick
Surely they can wait
Do they not understand
When you have anxiety, this can push you back
Honestley some people👺

ohcarriemathison · 11/06/2019 11:24

@123L I think she genuinely was just trying to be helpful but I really, really wish I'd cancelled.
I hardly know her (altho she really is lovely) and it felt way too much.

On a positive note, for the first time in days I am actually feeling a bit better !
A bit more like me but yep, not with the low mood.
I have my DS's Sports Day at 1:30pm so hopefully I feel ok at that. If so then I know I'll be ok for my DD's party on Saturday.

Well
That sounds great
You are sounding really positive about things
Good luck for later😀

ohcarriemathison · 11/06/2019 12:22

God, I'm
Just totally up and down !!
I'm now wishing I didn't have to go to the sports day and worried the thing where I could hardly talk Year Ray happens again ☹️
Sure it'll be fine tho and I'm just getting overly anxious.

Hi
Is it that you think people are judging you
Or your anxiety making you worry more 🌻

ohcarriemathison · 11/06/2019 13:03

Probably a bit of people judging and also just feeling weird on the medication and that I'll come across as not weird.
I'm normally ok at things like sports days and my anxiety is normally manageable.
I'm feeling like my anxiety is totally heightened just now.
I just feel like I want to hide in my house.

I always felt i was be talked about or judged...mostley work related...the sertroline my grown up kids say
Give me "i dont care attitude"
That maybe but my anxiety is so much better now🌄

ohcarriemathison · 11/06/2019 17:05

@123L think that's definitely what I'm needing "I don't care" 🤷🏼‍♀️ attitude.
Survived Sports Day. Glad I had my big DD with me, as she's so chatty, so helped me through it.
Feeling less anxious about the party now 🥳

OP posts:
CherryPlum · 11/06/2019 17:42

The 'I don't care' attitude is exactly what the medication has given to me! It describes the feeling very well. Obviously not so far that I'd put myself (or others) at risk in any way by not giving a toss, or do anything irresponsible, but I mean enough so that I'm able to take a step back and see the bigger picture, and sort of 'switch off' if needed. It's so much better for my mental health to be able to think 'ah well, it'll be ok' in situations which would've previously made me feel panicky.

I really hope this works out for you too OP and that it makes you feel 'free' again.

ohcarriemathison · 13/06/2019 16:18

That sounds so good @CherryPlum
I'm still struggling with side effects here.
I spoke to my GP today and she said it does sound like I'm having a really rough time but sounds as though I'm over the worse and to persevere.
Feeling so confused.
Feeling more anxious and just wondering whether the tablets are working for me 🤷🏼‍♀️
