hiya ive been taking this for 2 weeks too, just for depression, i do have been feeling a bit sick and spaced out, but i do now think they are beginning to work, i dont feel nowhere near as 'low' as i was.

This is about the 3rd time ive been prescribed this for depression, my ownly worry is why do i have to keep going back to the tablets, shouldnt i be able to 'just get on with life'. Ive also been referred for councelling so maybe that will help me too.

macneil - you have explained it down to a tee. I feel exactly the same as you. I eat for the sake of eating and have put on half a stone even though I go to the gym every week day. Will now do what you did and not eat as much!

I had bad experiences with them. If i drank alcohol with them i would get violent and that is very out of charactor for me. I also had a failed suicide attempt when on them (overdose).

But just because those things happened to me doesn't mean they would happen to anyone else because different medication effects people differently.

Just a bit of an update..................

I finally started taking them a month ago and after a few days of feeling extremely spaced out and zombied, i feel like a new person!

Saw my GP yesterday who prescribed me another month's supply. I have to go back to see him in October to discuss a plan to come off them around January time.

I feel so much less anxious, i feel laid back and i am actually feeling the sensation of enjoyment!

Thanks for all your advice and support!

I was on them in feb. I know the thread has progressed, but with me, they made me REALLY tired/sleepy and I felt sick constantly on them. I persevered, and by the end of the first week the side effects had gone.

[am posting this for people who find this later, since the more of us who post side-effects, the less scary it is if people experience them too)

I have been taking fluoxetine for almost 4 months now and can't tell you how much they have improved my mood. The sun has def started shining again, you don't realise how down you have been until you start to feel better and you know you were right to seek help in the first place.
I really didn't want to admit it to myself that there was something wrong after having having two lovely children,2 and 10 months, especially when i was told i would never be able to conceive naturally, but i used to dread waking up in the morning it was awful.
For a long while i felt guilty about taking the AD's but then they started taking effect and i stopped worrying, i now feel so much better.
At first i found sleeping hard but everything is fine now. Also their was an inability to orgasm which i'm glad to say has passed!!!
I hope this has been useful it's my first time on here.

I was on them for 18 months after dd4 was born. Really helped me, took about 2-3 weeks to feel good improvement in my mood and I felt worse for a few days before I started to feel better.
No side effects and came off them slowly over a period or 4 weeks.
