AIBU to take a mental health break

I have quit my job as it was making me very unhappy (I suffer from anxiety and depression also) I've decided to give myself 3 months to have a break and sort myself out as it were.
I've never been out of work for 20 years and can comfortably afford to have these 3 months off and have lots of skills and experience to get another job, the thing is my family tend to think this is a bad idea....is it???

God no. Take it and regroup

I agree - if you can afford to it's a wonderful thing to do. Do what makes you happy, and in a few months time they'll all be saying oh it was a great idea.

I was going to suggest long term absence so it didn’t impact your service. Only works if you get full pay or you could have asked for a sabbatical.

However you have made the decision based on what is right for you. I hope the time helps you.

Absolutely a great idea! My family don't understand when I do this but my career is completely flexible in that I can take permanent jobs or locum for odd days without any negative impact. I'm just about to start my 3rd period of 5-6 months like this that I've had in my 12 year career and am moving abroad for the summer. Looking forward to swimming, running, exploring, learning new languages and spending time with OH without any of the drudgery of home! Previously have spent my time out learning new skills, i.e. Learning to swim, running a half marathon, taking up crafts.

Oh piffle to the family! You are making a reasoned and logical decision which has absolutely nothing whatever to do with them! Your health comes first.

Do it! I've just been off for 6 weeks and now feel human again. I start a new job on Monday and I feel great about it x

You should do the it. Mainly you can afford it. I think everyone should do this a couple of times in their working life in fact!
