Greetings fellow parents,
I am an avid watcher of Twitch and in recent years it has become the main source of my daily entertainment. A lot of good, well minded people stream on this platform. There are some questionable personalities too but I have come across one that is pure evil and I don't say it lightly.
The person of whom I am speaking of specifically calls himself DarksydePhil. This streamer has been around for many years; he found fame on YouTube in the beginning and through partnerships accumulated a sizable following and a steady flow of chunky paychecks. He was well off until several years later where he found himself without sponsorships due to his demeanor and attitude towards himself and others. In short, he is a perfect human being who cannot do wrong and everyone else is at fault.
This is only my opinion of him and I share it more or less with a vast amount of critics that Phil has accumulated over the years:
He has a Patreon www.patreon.com/darksydephil on which you can pledge 5 dollars to be able to nominate a game for him to play. Think about this for a moment, you're paying just to vote for something that may be chosen to be played on stream if enough if said game gets enough votes. As far as I'm concerned, this is gambling.
His twitch streams are not the norm if you've ever watched any twitch streams before. Each one begins with a segment that he refers to as a “prestream” in which he doesn't play anything, it's just him talking about something that he hates on that particular day and then he proceeds to tell his viewers how they can contribute via paypal, twitch bit cheering system, his t-shirt store, his patreon and his YouTube channel where he archives all of his streams and puts ads on them for monetization.
There's a lot of information I could go into with further detail but I will just summarize it with pertinent points:
He lies a lot, almost every other sentence is a lie.
A constant flow of negativity and toxic commentary.
He asks for contributions constantly because he owes a lot of money in taxes. The amount is never revealed however.
Recently he has revealed that he is in massive debt and needs $16,000 by the end of April of 2019. No proof that he actually needs that exact amount.
He hates other content creators and often bullies them on his stream and on his twitter.
The bullying is aimed at his viewers as well because he will insult you on his stream if you correct him or question his reasoning.
He refers to sending him money on stream as “interaction” and promotes that concept throughout the stream. You're paying him to talk to him via a twitch message.
Someone calculated his earnings on twitch for the month of November this year and it was around $4,000 dollars. That's a pretty good earning considering that that is only one of his revenue streams. However, apparently this amount is nowhere near close enough for the streamer as he often complains that he doesn't have the money needed to improve his streaming equipment. He doesn't have enough money to buy extra games. He claims that his new 4k TV and PS4Pro were donated to him by viewers.
Twitch doesn't have a problem with the way this streamer conducts himself or with his practices. Countless people, including myself, have reported his actions and behavior to Twitch to no avail.
The reason why I wanted a forum such as this to be aware of this individual is because parents need to know of scam artists such as DarksydePhil who can easily influence a developing mind with negativity. If you have kids who watch Twitch and other streaming platforms, I would be very concerned if they follow DarksydePhil.
One final example: Sometime back, a regular contributor to his streams posted the following in his chat “Phil I am sorry but I won't be able to contribute anymore because my mom found out that I have been using her credit card to send you money” to which Phil replied with “it's okay” nothing more. No stern warning on why it's bad to do that or anything.
