Coming off of Sertraline

My ds 20 has been taking Sertraline for about 18 months for anxiety. He's had CBT in that time as well.
All is good with him now, he's been doing really well in his work and private life and is back to how he used to be before the anxiety got out of hand.
So he discussed coming off them with his GP and has been reducing his dose. He's now down to 50mg every other day. He's been doing well but had a small anxiety attack yesterday when out with his girlfriend. They've gone out again today and he was feeling really anxious before they left the house this morning.
He really, really doesn't want to stay on Sertraline.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it just the affect of his brain getting used to less Sertraline or is this just the way he's going to be when not taking it.
He's definitely feeling more emotions which he's having to adjust to so I'm hoping it'll settle down again. But I'm worried he's going to have to take it indefinitely to be able to cope through life.
He does have propranolol which he takes if he gets panicky but again he really doesn't want to rely on it.
I'm wondering if he needs more CBT.

Look at the site called Surviving Antidepressants. They give great advice on how to withdraw from antidepressants.
