I started a thread on escitalopram today,I've only took one. But I feel so ill on it...this has happened a couple of times I don't get past one tablet because of feeling zoned out / sick / not with it...I've tried Prozac and nothing ...and others didn't work either..perhaps it's just me?

Definitely not enough time

Try taking it before you go to sleep and then when you wake the side effects may have subsided

I was quite shaky when I first took them. It took afew weeks for the side effects to go and them to actually start making me feel better.

I will try at night ,I'm struggling to stay awake on it and I took it at 10 am

I couldn't drive when I first took them as I was so all over the place. You really do need to give it time.

It took me about 2 weeks for the all the side effects to go away and about 5 months to start feeling better!

God beefcake that's a bloody long time to wait for them to work..

I started on Sertraline 2 weeks ago and have just started to feel a lot better. It’s amazing to feel that the huge black cloud I have been under for years is lifting. I wish I had had the courage to go on them before. Felt rough the first week, tired and spaced out, sleep disturbances and upset stomach. I think that’s all pretty standard when starting ADs. Stick with it x

Two weeks is quite normal for an antidepressant to have any effect OP, none of them will work on just one tablet! Stick with it.

heartsease68 · 04/08/2018 19:39

It usually takes weeks to have an effect. I'm surprised they didn't tell you. The side effects unfortunately hit at once but they do often pass. Flowers

Slimmingsnake · 04/08/2018 20:00

Oh yes side effects within 6 hours of taking it ..I feel faint and sick..I'm on day 3 now ...I don't know weather to take another or bin them

Maybe ask for some valium to get you through the first few days?

Or try another one.

heartsease68 · 04/08/2018 22:58

If you really need them to have an effect, it's worth pressing on (unless you're experiencing any side-effects that are terribly upsetting or listed as reasons to contact your doctor). The alternative is to return to having no hopeful plan (at least you can look forward to probably feeling a bit better soon while taking them) or start all over again on different tablets which will have their own horrible side-effects. It is a lottery and so awful that the drugs which help do make you feel worse for a short time. Funny enough, some of the side-effects at lower doses sometimes ease off as the dosage is increased. I'm no advocate of prescription medication but if you're at the point where you're willing to take them, I would give it a good go for a four week period. At that point, you'll know what was initial knock-out side-effects better.

No harm in visiting your GP to check that all is well otherwise.

I fucking hated those things. But really even 2 weeks isn't that long. My Dr told me to give them a minimum of 6 weeks before assuming them useless.
