Hi everyone, recently diagnosed with bpd and I’ve been trying to find a good online chat group, an app, a befriended or something that might help. I think talking to someone that can relate and that I can asks questions would really help so I wondered if any of you know of or have used anything that you think would be suitable. Thanks guys.

@Timeofnumbness….I’m a mum of an adult DC with BPD. You are right people do misunderstand BPD. Too much emphasis placed on the word ‘personality’ probably and the feeling that a personality cannot be changed. From our experience, your medical diagnosis is your business ….if you think some people may misunderstand it, don’t disclose it…you don’t have to. My DD has told many people she has Bi Polar type 2….tbh there are many similarities, she takes the same meds etc. Seems that Bi Polar is somehow more socially acceptable 🙄 he ho! But that’s the world we currently live in.
For close family and confidants that have a real and genuine desire to learn more about BPD and support someone I strongly recommend Valerie Porrs book “Overcoming Borderline Personality Disorder” a family guide. It is an excellent and compassionate book that will really help a family to communicate and understand better….it has been brilliant for us!
I hope this helps! Best of luck!

Sorry a final thing…BPD like many mental illnesses has a spectrum. My DC is atypical ….more quiet, not loud with histrionics but crippling low self esteem. Outsiders need to grasp this otherwise it can lead to blanket generalisations that are hugely damaging and hurtful to a sufferer. We’ve had snidey unpleasant comments. You have to stand up to these and suggest someone who makes ignorant remarks reads up a little. We once had an outrageous remark from someone who works for the NHS….I just calmly suggested she considers doing some neuro-diversity training to better understand the condition.

I'd advise against healthfulchat.org actually. Upon arriving due to the recommendation, there were multiple gross images of sexualized children being posted by users, and moderators were okay with it. It made me physically ill to see such things in a place that was meant for support. Thank you for your time.
