Hi I'm feeling increasingly overwhelmed tonight due to having a lot on within the family, and work and now I I'm finding it increasingly hard to calm down.

Op just take it 15 minutes at a time,
ie, in the next 10 minutes l will make and drink a cup of tea and nothing else.

Then follow a relaxation podcast for 15 minutes.

Then a 15 minute bath/shower whatever relaxes you.

The trick is to engage fully with what you are doing and nothing else, keep bringing your thoughts back calmly to what you are doing.

Go to bed listening to a verbal relaxation from your phone or tablet or computer, REALLY listen they are great for quietening your busy mind.

Good luck

Hi. It's the same thing again. Just really hard to settle down. I hate it when this comes back after everything you try.
I'm never sure what to do when I feel like this when I've tried all the usual stuff.
It's like my brain won't work.
And the house is full so can't even phone the Samaritans if I wanted to.

Breathe slow deep breaths.

This too shall pass. Nothing is permanent.

Have just got back indoors from a walk and sit in the garden. I usually find being outdoors good.
I have some things I need to address now that I'm really anxious about and so starting to do it starts a cascade of panic.

I find it useful to make a list.
Then prioritise.
Make another list putting priorities in order and tick off.

I was given a calming technique recently...Put your thumb and 4th finger together at the tips (must be touching), it's an acupuncture line so you don't have to do anything else it opens up your airways. If you can, try and switch off but if you can't just breathe.

It's a really complicated situation and set of tasks.
Nis I'm feeling panicky I can't concentrate on beginning even.
I feel Ive got no support.
Shall I make a list then and start them one by one?

I think a list is a really good idea - it'll help you prioritise and focusses your brain!

Maverick66 · 27/05/2018 22:17

Write everything down.
No matter how jumbled then go through everything and make a more detailed list.

Letitgo2018 · 27/05/2018 22:26

It's a situation I'm so uncomfortable about. I feel I can't do it and start panicking. Do you ever feel an out of control feeling in your mind from anxiety?
then I have flashes that I can't do it and would rather be dead.
So logically I know it doesn't make sense to go through death rather than deal with a task and I don't really mean it but I can't see a solution and can't cope with the anxiety.
What is it people always say. Baby steps. One thing at a time.
I could make a list tonight . Then start the first one tomorrow .

When something is overwhelming I find putting it on paper helps to rationalise.
No matter how difficult the task nor how awkward the outcome it has to be better than avoiding it and causing yourself such stress and anxiety.

Letitgo2018 · 27/05/2018 23:05

It's like a circle of panic. I can't reduce it enough to do them but not doing it and knowing there is a deadline means I'm panicking. But I'm panicking because of something else I'm going through so it doesn't take much to go from my baseline to panic at the moment. And when I get completely overwhelmed I feel out of control inside.

Make a list and do the first thing tonight - you'll have got it started and made a dent in the problem. Pick something small and easy to get it done quickly.

If you need the Samaritans, you can email them as well if you don't feel comfortable making a phone call.

Still here. Still panicking. Still procrastinating.
I did do a couple of small jobs from the list.

Hi Op,

sorry you are still struggling, do you think a trip to chat to your Gp about anxiety meds could help?

Letitgo2018 · 29/05/2018 23:18

Yes I'm just feeling worse and worse. Not sure what to do next.
