Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (Maudsley Hospital). Any experience?

I asked for a referral, via GP, over a year ago after years of paying for private therapy to no avail, and have just been asked to attend for an assessment. I am delighted as I was told that my PCT would not fund at first.

My background is OCD since childhood (abusive) and possible Complex PTSD due to traumatic events in both childhood and in adulthood. I was told by OCD Action that this centre is THE place to get treated for OCD and they had great success with longstanding OCD sufferers.

I consider this my last option after so many years of seeking treatment and researching OCD/PTSD myself. If not successful (or if they say they can't treat me) I am just going to accept that an anxiety ridden wreck is the way I'm going to be for the rest of my life!

Anyone had any experiences?

I am just about to be discharged from CADAT after a trial run of 12 sessions for severe OCD. I live about 200 miles from London and travelled down for all but one appointment, which I did via video call.

Unfortunately it has been a complete waste of time, but I do (apparently!) have significant and complicating comorbidities. My CMHT approached all the specialist OCD services before the referral and they all said I would need inpatient treatment. Now CADAT seem to be saying that another area of my mental health would need to be resolved before even going in for that. I suppose I'll be told exactly what they are recommending at my final appointment.

It's obviously been incredibly disheartening for me, but I don't have only bad things to say about the service. I can describe how my referral went if you are interested. I've been referred to a specialist OCD service twice now, though the first time when I reached the top of the waiting list I refused the treatment (that was inpatient and I had to admit to myself that this just isn't possible due to the extent of my contamination fears).

Where are you up to in the process?

Thank you so much for sharing and I am sorry to hear your experience hasn't been a positive one. My referral is for severe ocd also. Do you mind if I PM you?

@Sausagedog101 Of course I don't mind. I will try to answer later; if not, tomorrow.
