Has anyone been diagnosed with adult ADHD?

I've had mental health problems all my life and I have regular appointments with a psychiatrist. I've been on anti depressions for about 30 years ( it's reviewed regularly) and quetiapine to stabilise moods. But I've noticed that my attention span is very small, I cant organise a piss up in a brewery and I start stuff but never finish. I've always been like this from childhood, I scraped by at school, so I went back and got the A levels I needed then went to university. The one and only reason I managed this was because I used to stay up all night the day before work was due then I'd produce average work and scraped through again.
At work ( I was a nurse) I hated filing records. I just couldn't get the alphabet straight in my head, I also don't know left from right.
I know I would need a proper diagnosis ( I'm going to ask at my next appointment) but does anyone have any advice? Thanks.

I brought it up with my GP and she just laughed and said I couldn't have it because I got good grades at school. But every time I had an essay or something, I'd spend ages putting it off, then reach crisis point where I'd have a meltdown because I couldn't do it, then pull an all nighter and do it out of pure fear of failing. I'm really scatterbrained and clumsy to the extent of regularly injuring myself in really stupid ways and sometimes thinking of something I need to do, opening up my to do list, and not being able to remember what it was. I've always been really hyperactive and can't keep still either.

I didn't pursue it further as her reaction dispirited me, but hopefully you'll get somebody nicer. I took all my thoughts on paper to keep them organised and say everything I wanted to say.

It's tricky as there is some crossover with depression - which I'm sure you know also makes you restless, unable to focus, difficulty starting/finishing things. So the GP kind of pushed me in that direction, and to be fair I did have depression too. But if you feel very strongly that there's something else there, you should definitely bring it up.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't brought it up with any professional yet, but I will. I can't live like this anymore

One of my friends has just been diagnosed (in fact she's in an article about it in the Guardian today) - she shared something on Facebook today about people who are stuggling to get a diagnosis - I'll try and dig it out for you.
