Impact of Prozac in Sex Drive

I have just been prescribed fluoxetine for pmt. I am to take it from day 14 of cycle for 14 days.

This is great as it has been pretty bad for a while now and I am pleased to be dealing with it.

However I know that it can impact on sex life. I realise this is secondary to my pmt feelings but obviously I think intimacy with my DH is important and it fulfills a need.

I guess what I wonder is will it just affect me on the days I am taking it (when I suppose my sex drive us lower anywAy) or will it carry through?

I might not be the person to ask since I'm on it all the time, but I find it's not so much sex drive as dulls my orgasm/makes it harder to climax. I find that if I'm emotionally in the mood but not physically, if that makes sense, then doing stuff to my DP helps keep the intimacy going until I have my groove back (plus, it can get me going a lot of the time). Obviously don't do anything if you aren't in the mood or don't want to do it!

Every antidepressant that I've been on has dulled my libido. It sucks! But just because that side effect happens to some doesn't mean that it will happen to you. Especially since you don't take it on a day to day basis. Fluoxetine does have a long half life however, so I'm not sure how long after you stop taking it that the effects will last for. It doesn't mean that you won't be aroused necessarily, but I find it can make it harder to climax as mentioned before.

You also could find that it enhances your sex drive due to reducing your pmt symptoms, so it really could go either way.

I wouldn't worry too much hun, you'll just have to see how it effects you I suppose. It also does depend on the dosage a small bit. Good luck hun xx
