Good friend's daughter has antenatal- depression and she is worried

A friend's son ex-g is expecting a baby. She is 16, and has admitted to "lying" to the son about being on the pill. The son was using condoms due to STI risks etc (cleaver boy).
However, the girl is now suffering with very severe depression. The son is trying to help her as much as possible, and has promised to her that he will be a dad to their child.

My friend's query is if the girl will have PND (as friend had PND quite bad, and wants to support girl where possible).

I suffered with PND as well, but don't know if there is more of a risk of PND due to her AND now.

Thanks

good support site for AND

AND is often missed and not diagnosed, so good that it has been caught

hopefully ,she will get plenty of help and support, so if it does carry over, she will be given all the help she needs

she is going through a massive period of adjustment , being pregnant so young, so will nneed extra help

don;t know if it is a greater risk, but certainly she will need a close eye on her

Thanks for the site lulu, will email it to friend.
She is under psycheatric (omg at me spelling) care in the community, so she is having some support.

It's obv a big worry for everyone involved.

I have no idea whether you are more likely to get PND, but I think there is some safe medication that can be prescribed to sort of stabilise your mood beofrehand.
FWIW, two women I knew who suffered from AND, with lots of support during the pg and lots of TLC and observations afterwards, neither went on to develop PND.

Hope she will be ok, poor wee thing

Not sure what the chances of ante natal depression turning into PND once the baby's born. I had ante natal depression during my second pregnancy & I did go onto suffer PND, but I didn't seek help when pregnant as I felt I shouldn't be unhappy during what should be a happy time.
I am pleased to hear this young girl is getting some support.

I agree with the other ladies. The AND will only put her at more risk of PND if it's not being treated (and it sounds like she is being treated/supported through the PG). I had AND (coupled with OCD), took Prozac in 3rd trimester and after the birth, and didn't develop PND.

Thanks for the information.
I really appreciate it, and i know my mate has looked on here this morning, and is going to let the daughter know it does not mean she will develop PND.

thanks
