i just found out someone in the far east has stolen over a thousand pounds from my bank account. Apparently my card has been skimmed somehow. I'm so upset about it - we will get it back apparently but I'm so upset and can't imagine going xmas shopping now. I feel just so sad about it I don't know what to do with myself. The police woman I spoke to says it happens all the time and is very bad at the moment. Has this happened to anyone else?

We had bank cards intercepted and used to the tune of several thousand pounds. We did eventually get it all recredited to our accounts though. Sympathies, this is a real pain in the neck.

banks usually keep an eye out for unusual activity, so fraudsters tend to pull lots of scams this time of year as what would normally flag up as unusual activity is seen as xmas shopping etc.

hope you get your money back quickly.

It was a couple of years ago now, and I'm struggling to remember the details. Fortunately for us the fraudsters picked accounts which hardly had anything in them anyway, so it was the bank's money they nicked rather than ours. But yes, I don't think it took very long to sort it out.
