I thought most ppl start off on 10mg not 20mg, no wonder her head is spinning. what AD's was she prescribed?

lulumama · 15/11/2006 13:43

i started on 20 mg ( up to 175 by the end!!! )- dizziness is normal. some people affected more than others. side effects settle in 2 weeks or so..will certainly diminish before then.....was she advised to take them at night?

Yes it is normal, but will settle down in a few weeks. Dh found that he was like a zombie in the morning to start with, so he started taking his ADs at about 5pm instead of just before bed, which helped.

I started on Citalopram 20mg, it spaced me out for a little while. I was sick and dizzy for a couple of weeks, but the first three or four days were the worst. I could definitely get out of bed though, so it sounds as if she's having a pretty bad reaction.

Any severe reaction to an AD needs checking out. In a few people Citalopram can cause low blood sodium levels, which can cause extreme dizziness and drowsiness, confusion and fits - so no, she's not going over the top; the GP presumably wants her to go to A&E to make sure that this isn't what's happening to her. Better safe than sorry.

I hope they manage to sort her out.
