I am going through a bit of a stressful time atm, & today I went to see my doctor about it.
I explained my situation & asked about possibly having some more counselling, which he is going to try & organise.
I told him I wasn't sure I wanted ads, as I am not depressed as such, just very stressed & run down, but he has requested I try taking Dosulepin to help with my anxiety levels.
I have never heard of this drug & know nothing about any possible side effects.
I am in two minds as to whether I should start taking these tablets.
Has anyone any experience of this drug?

Took one last night. Still didn't sleep well, but I guess I need to give them time to get into my system.
Noticed on the pack that you are meant to avoid alcohol with them, which is going to prove a bit of a challange for me!
I was thinking of cutting down this month, but NO alcohol at all!!

I was told to take the tablet (was also on lowest dose) half an hour before bedtime, I slept amazingly well when taking them, and never felt particularly foggy in the morning.
Dosulepin helped me massively (I'd had a bad time on an SSRI -- this was for anxiety-related PND), and I came off with no probs. HTH.

Glad to hear they helped you, BP.
I am on 25mg, which GP told me was a low dose, & I have been told to take them 1 hour before I go to bed.
I was very reluctant to try these tablets, because I was a bit wary about taking any kind of AD, but my stress levels & continued lack of sleep got the better of me!

Ohhh, excellent! Well done to DD3!!

I took a tablet last night, as I felt out of it with tiredness yesterday while at work!
It didn't do much though, but I guess I won't notice much in the way of change just yet!
Don't know how long I can keep up this no drinking rule though!!

Hi crackercracker

I'm not on MN much at the moment but just spotted this thread. I'm not pregnant but have been taking dosulepin for two years now. I started on 100mg then 75 and reduced down slowly to 25mg at the end of last year as I wanted to see if I could managed without it as I was feeling much better in myself. However due to several stressful things happening in my life I decided with the advice of my doctor to increase my dose again to 75mg.

I don't suffer any side effects except a small amount of weight gain. The advantages are I sleep really well when on the right dose, and definitely feel calmer. I'm due to have surgery next week so am staying on 75mg for a while longer yet. I'm not in a hurry to come off dosulepin as it works for me. However part of me would still like to be able to come off in the future with the right support.

Sorry to hear you're so worried at the moment. Could you have a chat with your doctor about your feelings? Good luck with the pregnancy x
