It's taken 2 years but today I admitted I was struggling

Well after a hellish weekend in which I tried to leave DP so I didnt hurt him in the long run and various other issues I saw the GP today and he's prescribed me Fluoxetine (sp?) and signed me off work for 2 weeks.

I have a few questions though:

I had to text work and tell them I was signed off. My usual manager (MIL) is away for 2 weeks and our deputy despises me. She currently hasn't replied and I'm now panicking that it's all round work and everyone thinks I've let the team down.

Also how long does this medication take to kick in? I feel so much happier having admitted that I'm struggling but I'm worried that there might be hideous side effects or that I'll never fully be better.

Sorry that you have been struggling and well done on going to see the GP! Flowers
I can't advise much about work - other than to say that I'm pretty sure employers have some sort of duty of confidentiality not to be spreading information about your health around the office.

In terms of the fluoxetine, it can take 4-6 week to properly kick in. Don't worry if you don't feel better straight away, or even if you feel slightly worse before you feel better (can happen occasionally but by no means all the time) just try and stick with the tablets and let your doctor know if you're having any problems. Hopefully in a few weeks you are feeling much better. If you do have side effects - there are other tablets that can be tried. And you will get better, you've made all the steps in the right direction already. Sending Brew and Cake for you.
