Just seen this in the tv programmes listings for this coming week, for anyone interested. The condition is explored from the perspectives of those living with it.

I watched this last night and it really upset me

I had psychosis a couple of times followed by deep depressions and have been diagnosed with bipolar.

Seeing other people also suffering in a similar way was heartbreaking, but also brought up a lot of stuff for me, especially the woman worrying that she has passed it on to her kids

I have been well for 2 years now and living a normal life, but now and again something brings it all back and I find it difficult and pretty distressing to think about how ill I was.

Does anybody else get this?

Yes, I agree that it is very hard to explain psychosis. And like so many things in life, it is impossible to imagine what it might be like unless you have had it

I actually missed the beginning of the programme which I gather was the first man while he was psychotic and I think I am glad that I missed it. Too upsetting

I too have the fear of passing it on. So much so that if I had been ill before kids, I would seriously have considered not having any. I don't like the idea of either of them going through what I did. However, if I hadn't had kids, I probably wouldn't have become ill. For me, I am sure that there are many factors, but 7 years of sleep deprivation and stress over ds1 being unwell is what tipped me over the edge.

I worry about passing it on to DSs too. I found it quite upsetting to watch. I have bipolar 2 but my brother has bipolar 1 and I recognised a lot watching the first man in the programme.

I mean I saw a lot of my brother in the first man on the programme. He was exactly how my brother gets when he is manic.

I too worry about DD1 as she is very sensitive to routine and change. However, I felt much sadder for the musician boy who obviously struggled to manage anything in daily life. Very upsetting really.

However, I would have liked to see a person who was coping and doing well. It just seemed to focus on the negative, but I guess that makes good TV. There are lots of functioning bipolar people out there, holding down jobs and raising families and it would be good for the general public to see that.
