A colleague at work said 5-HTP is excellent for depression

Hi. She told me that she has been taking this product for 3 months now and has noticed the difference in her moods. She reckons it's better than St Johns Wort. The shop assistant at H&B said it was more effective too, but I thought she was Just trying to sell it as it was more expensive than SJW. It's £12.99 for 120 tablets, and u only need to take 1 a day, a maximum of 2 tabs.

I'm gonna buy some now and take 1 tablet a day along with my SJW.

Let me know if any of u buy it and let me know the results.

alexa - did you ask in the shop about taking both together? Its just that the herbs are quite powerful and it might be worth checking before you mix them.

I am a memeber on the Perinatal Illness Website, and I have also been told about 5-HTP which I asked my doctor about and also was given advice from the PNI website .....

The 5-HTP is Serotonin.

This is its chemical name 5-Hydroxytriptamine and some 'people'
(i use the term 'people' loosely as selling this is a con...) they try to sell this in tablet or liquid from for people to take.

The problem with this is your liver 'breaks it down' (metabolises) too fast for your body to use it.
If you took lots of tablets or liquid you would get quite severe shaking and 'CNS' (Brain and nervous system) stimulation which is horrid and distressing. ........

Please look into taking this a bit more in depth, I found out about it through THe Observor so I thought it sounded okay and might have worked but in the long run i couldnt risk it after getting advice, dont want to scare you but please think carefully about taking any holistic and even prescribed meds
