Long term use of anti depressants and weight gain

I have been suffering from dehabilitating anxiety, am now on e-citalopram which is making some difference.

I have been told that it causes weight gain and that I need to take it long term (years).

Anyone else in this situation? Any suggestions to avoid weight gain?

All antidepressants cause weight gain because they slow you down, make you feel tired, mostly give you an appetite, the only way to avoid weight gain is to eat less and more healthy and exercise more! boring but it's the only way.

Not everybody gets the same effects or side effects from every medication. Some make people lose weight while others gain. And like PP said, a lot of it is just slowing you down. Don't worry before it happens, it might not at all! Good luck with the new meds.
