New diagnosis of bipolar and meds

I have just been diagnosed with bipolar and took my first dose of quetiapine last night (small dose of 25 mgtwice a day being increased daily until it's 100 me twice a day) I slept until after ten which is amazing as have only been sleeping 3 hours...I have taken 2nd tablet this morning and am VERY sedated...is this normal?

hi op,didnt see your thread till now,sounds pretty similar to me just been diagnosed starting meds yesterday etc,i started a general thread just now

mind you i took my first 50mg lunctime yesterday and felt very sedated,thats really why i posted earlier,so in my teeny tiny expeience i would say yes

Hi Kitty - I have bipolar type two and take quetiapine. I think it is a very good drug. It will make you feel sedated, perhaps for a couple of weeks, but that should lift and you will feel much better.

It is normal to feel sedated, some people get used to it.
