I know I have health anxiety but now I think u have social anxiety too. I just feel like an idiot. I'm always worried about what someone is going to ask me and it could be something so trivial but then I go bright red and panic then a feel like a total idiot :( I'm starting to not want to socialise because of this , it doesn't happen often but when it does I just can't get out of it and then I try to look away or hide when I'm going more and more red but it makes it worse ! Any tips on stopping this from happening ?

It sounds like it could be. I suffer from social aniexty, but I fear I'm going to be sick when out, it's awful.

I know it sounds awful and terrifying but is to try and brave it, the more you put yourself in that situation and you can prove nothing terrible is going to happen it will help :) something about changing the thought process x

Well I feel like a total tit now :( the poor person I was with looked really awkward , I'm having a panic attack now thinking about it , What the hell must they think ? Like "why is she going red ?" OMG I can't believe I did that , I just want to go home and hide under my duvet :((

The main thing I say to myself is "does it matter what they think" try and talk yourself round I know it's hard that internal voice disagreeing with everything.

Just try and stay calm, breathe. Your not a tit, it's more common than we think most people have some degree of social aniexty.

Yea I guess we all do but I don't even know half the time y I'm going red :-/ it's not like I was standing there naked is it , I think it's when ppl ask me personal questions I just freak , I don't really like talking about myself and my personal life but really it was just a general chit chat but I feel so bloody stupid now then I tried to turn round so she couldn't see me ffs like hello she was still right there god :(

I have terrible social anxiety and its horrid but honestly as pp says the best way to deal with it is to go through it and prove to yourself that nithing bad will happen.

Also i have found when i havw been open with people qbout the anxiety a surprising number have turned out to also suffer the same to some degree.

It helps to remember that generally people are so wrapped up in their own stuff that they don't notice that you are e.g. blushing as they are worrying about something else :)

go to your dr and ask for help. Mine put me on beta blockers and they are the dogs bollocks.

You can work on this so it's not quite so overwhelming.. even if it's to explain that you've got awful anxiety that day as a way of explanation if you feel you must. You would be surprised at how much people understand.

Milkmachinemadness · 21/02/2014 10:08

Can u take beta blockers when you need them ? Or do you have to take them regularly ?

it says when you need them on mine. They stop the physical feelings of anxiety so you can cope better. I wish I had went to get them sooner.

The overthinking/ freaking out afterwards is a trait of social anxiety disorder - it used to be my worst trait, so much so that I'd talk myself out of social things to avoid doing it again.

Ive had CBT and it was life changing.
