I eventually went to docs yesterday, been really suffering with depression. Is it possible the medication can result in side effects straight away? I'm feeling sick and no appetite today, however feeling better, clearer... I'm on 50 mg the lowest dose.. Anyone else share their experience please?

How long have you been taking 75mg TheJourney? How are you feeling now?

TheJourney22 · 20/06/2014 10:20

Last 3 days 75mg ... feel ok side effects wise little nausea.

But I still feel an emotional car crash :(

I have PND. But I can't seem to pull myself up at all

Hoping the AD's help in some way at least so I can

TheJourney22 · 20/06/2014 10:23

Didn't finish!!! ... At least so I can get my head clear again

kazzawazzawoo · 20/06/2014 12:13

Fingers crossed the increased dose helps.

I'll take my first 75mg tomorrow.

I think I'm sleeping better than I was, but otherwise I'm not coping well really.

Chuffchuff · 20/06/2014 17:55

Sorry to hear that kazza Sad. You've given the meds a good go on 50mg now so they should be working now if they were going to - hopefully you'll soon start to notice the difference on the upped dose Smile

I still feel pretty good - haven't had a 'bad' day for a while now. I actually forgot to take my tablet this morning and have nearly done that a few times lately, which I take as a good sign that I'm not even thinking about how I'm feeling....

Hope that doesn't sound a bit boasty? I just mean that once you find the tight dose for you, I'm sure you'll start to feel a lot better Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 20/06/2014 18:42

Chuffchuff, not boasty at all Smile I'm so pleased you feel better. Smile

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 20/06/2014 19:06

Hi all, sorry to jump in, GP prescribed me 50mg sertraline yesterday when I finally bit the bullet and went along. Haven't taken it before ( had paroxetine in the past). Hope it helps. Thanks for you all

Rowood · 20/06/2014 19:10

Hi, on my second lot today. Last night I had night sweats (only around my neck area weirdly), no appetite, nausea and a funny feeling in my jaw......
Eeeekkkk! Feeling a bit odd but looking forward to them kicking in

Chuffchuff · 20/06/2014 20:15

Thanks kazza Flowers

Hi elle and rowood Smile. I also felt very wierd for a few days when I started - the night sweats thing was particularly horrible. I took 50mg the first day but felt pretty rough, so for the next week I took half a dose ANC then the side effects were a bit more bearable. When I then went back up to 50 it was ok. The side effects don't usually last more than a couple of weeks anyway, and the first few days are the worst.

Hang in there and just keep thinking that you're only days away from starting to feel a whole lot better Smile

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 20/06/2014 20:23

Thankyou chuff that's positive :) hope you are feeling well.

Rowood · 20/06/2014 21:28

Thank you that makes me feel more positive, I am starting to feel better already although not sure if it's psychosomatic?

kazzawazzawoo · 21/06/2014 11:02

Hello Rowood Smile Hope you get on ok with Sertraline. I've been taking 50 mg now for nearly three months, but have increased my dose today to 75mg with a view to increasing to 100mg in a week. I'm hoping I don't get too many side effects. When I first started I had a little nausea and restlessness, a dry mouth, headaches and trouble sleeping for a few nights, but it settled down quickly. The only side effect I'm left with now is very vivid dreams every night, which is quite enjoyable really!

kazzawazzawoo · 23/06/2014 10:04

Hi, hope everyone's ok? Smile

I increased my dose to 75mg on Saturday morning. I've been fine apart from headaches every day. No nausea though, thank goodness. I'll give it a week and then increase to 100 mg.

Chuffchuff · 23/06/2014 10:49

Hi Kazza Smile

Glad you're not suffering too much with the dreaded side effects! I've heard that it's never as bad as when you first start on them, so hopefully that's the case for you...

I'm still doing ok thanks, feeling fine atm, long may that continue!

kazzawazzawoo · 23/06/2014 14:10

Glad you're ok ChuffchuffSmile This headache is a killer! Paracetamol aren't really touching it. And my lovely vivid dreams have gone for now. . Sad

Chuffchuff · 23/06/2014 14:22

Oh that's not good! I wouldn't want to lose my vivid dreams - I look forward to them every night!

kazzawazzawoo · 23/06/2014 15:23

Yes I was the same, loved my dreams! Hope they come back.

kazzawazzawoo · 23/06/2014 15:39

My colleague who is currently on holiday for the rest of this week broke her wrist on Saturday and just came in with her sick note - she is written off sick for 6 weeks at least! During that time my other colleague and myself both have time off booked!

Luckily it's been quiet for the past few days and may continue to be quiet, however, I'm trying hard to stay calm about this.

TheJourney22 · 23/06/2014 20:31

Increased to 75mg 4 days ago with a view of upping to 100mg in 3 days ....

Man the nausea ..... when does the nausea go :(((

kazzawazzawoo · 23/06/2014 20:58

Sorry to hear that TheJourney Sad Luckily I'm not suffering with nausea this time, just have a constant horrendous headache.

TheJourney22 · 23/06/2014 21:08

Oh no :( that's bad thou too ... Ibuprofen & paracetamol staggered??

CarrotsAndApples · 23/06/2014 21:16

Hi everyone, sorry to hear about people's side effects - nausea and headaches sounds tough. I have the vivid dreams and have nausea too - I can eat but only at certain times.

I'm still on 50mg and feel a bit less anxious - don't know how much benefit is from me feeling like I have taken some positive action and how much is the medication. But I have had some changes at work (manager etc) and I still began to panic and feel overwhelmed. Also still quite exhausted and shouting at family members - a big issue for me which I am working hard to improve.

How do other people manage their time / tiredness? I feel like I have so many tasks to do once the kids are in bed (admin, household, job prep, birthday planning etc). If I decide to do some jobs and not sleep I get even more bad tempered. But if I "give in" and sleep I get anxious about all the unfinished jobs.

kazzawazzawoo · 23/06/2014 22:34

TheJourney, I'm trying not to take many ibuprofen. It says something in the patient information leaflet about not taking sertraline with nsaids. Paracetamol isn't really helping though.

Carrots, I'm really lazy and don't do the jobs unless really necessary Shock Blush Blush I feel really ill if I get too tired and then I get really anxious, so I try to make sure that I go to bed on time. Unfortunately dh is rubbish at going to bed on time. so I rarely get enough sleep.

CarrotsAndApples · 24/06/2014 10:29

Having a bad morning today :-( Late for school with kids and feel like a failure. Everything is crushing me. So much to do and not enough time. Wobbly legs and tired. Forcing myself to have a sandwich before 9 hours at work. Grr. Sorry to rant. Hope others are doing better today.

kazzawazzawoo · 24/06/2014 13:54

Rant away Carrots. I have days like that too and feel rubbish. Hope the day improves.

Our boss at work is not helping with the increased work load at all. He knows nothing about how the system runs and we don't know how to do her job because we never had to (I had training in part but not with the software as she's always dealt with it. I don't want to get stressed about it. I'm just going to do what I can and let my other colleague pick up part of the work load. At least my boss has said I can have an afternoon off during the week as I work Saturday morning too.
